While home from the Army I decided to visit 1 of my favorite lakes near Truckee. The lakes I visited will remain name less, just know that they are small, secluded and with in 20 min of Truckee. While there I took the chance to visit another near by lake which I had not visited previously since I was always happy going to my usual spot. After parking my car I gathered my towel, chair and cooler and headed toward the water to look for a nice spot to spend a few hrs. As I approached the lake I saw a site which disgusted me. Trash was everywhere! All sorts of items from D cell Batteries, crayons, playing cards, to plastic wear, paper plates, plastic cups and food seasonings. Now I have seen what a bear and small woodland creatures can do to a camp site, this was not the case. In all the trash I picked up I saw no bite or claw marks from any animal. There was a large pile just in the tree line containing a stack of dirty and worn but not used paper plates, more then a bag of glow in the dark plastic utensils, a 2 and a half gallon hard plastic reusable water jug, a head to a push broom, countless plastic cups, cutting boards, top roman wrappers, tiki lamp oil and bug spray bottles. In the fire pit: food seasoning, plastic cups, shampoo from the Bellagio hotel and casino, playing cards and much more.






I love the outdoors. I go to these lakes because they are near civilization, but at the same time are not highly populated. I enjoy a nice day or weekend at a beautiful mountain lake with only a few other people there. It saddens, and frustrates me to show up and find a mess left by some stupid careless person who had there fun and left there trash behind for others. It is disgusting and just plain rude! If you would like to continue to visit these beautiful places, please pack out what you pack in. Be respectful to everyone else who wishes to enjoy the beauty of this planet.

I hate that . I find stuff like that every year when I go camping at my favorite high Sierra lakes. Never been fortunate to catch anyone in the act, but I have definitely found plenty of trash that people have left behind. Why escape to the mountains only to trash the place?

Its also been recently happening at my favorite local river spot... a bunch of city folk caught wind of some of our rivers and flock by the hundreds on summer weekends. We have had to start bringing trash bags with us to the river, thats how bad it has gotten. Again, why travel to enjoy the beauty of nature, then leave all your trash behind? Is the mentality that "someone else will clean it up" that prevalent these days??

I just went camping up by Big Sandy.  My friend had found the perfect camping spot.  Secluded and right near a creek.  Let the dogs run free as there was no one else for them to bother.  Noticed they kept going to a spot back in the trees.  Some idiot had filled a bucket with crap and toilet paper.  They could not be bothered to take it with them.  Also had dug an open pit and craped in it.  Left their toilet paper rolls hanging from the trees.  I filled in thier hole,  Had to keep the dogs tied up the rest of the weekend.  People like that should be banned from the forest.

I also find this, it is very sad that people can't pick up after themselves. I always seem to have the back of my 4runner filled with my camping stuff and other peoples trash on my way home. The worst is the toilet paper blowing in the breeze, I don't understand why they can't dig down a ways into to dirt and then bury it. They just seem to dig in the pine needles or not at all. It only takes a few minutes to dig a proper hole. I wish the National Forest Service would me able to install out houses near camping spots on all of our ohv trails. I am glad that they and 4x4 clubs have on a lot of trails.

no  they should be shot,  well at least forced to not only clean up there trash but also forced (by gun point if necessary) to pick up the trash at that location every sunday afternoon for the rest of there lives
