I didn't think it was possible, and if possible cost effective...........

I'd just put an electric fan on it.........

I have never heard of anyone rebuilding a viscous fan clutch. A new one is less than $100.

I was told you can change the fluid and be good to go.. (So I heard..)The OEM is $100.00+..I'll be calling the dealer tomorrow. If I can change the fluid and put it back together, It would be good as new.. cheap fix if poss....

You can get a aftermarket one for less than $100. I have been wrenching for 20 years & have never, ever, rebuilt one. I'm not saying that it isn't possible but to me it would quicker to swap it out rather than tear it apart. But if you have the time to figure it out make sure you take plenty of pic's & post them up in a how to thread so the rest of us can learn too.

I've been learning that the Toyota trucks seem to do better with OEM parts, I'm not saying that the aftermarket isn't up-to-par. It may just be my luck. I will gladly do a write up. If it is possible. It's killing me trying to remember who told me it was.....It will save a crap load of $$ if it is..:) Thanks to all..

I also forgot to say I have an extra clutch to work on while the truck is still together. :)

Here is a post I got off Pirate...

"Go find a local hobby shop or R/C race track and ask the kid behind the counter for a couple bottles of 5000 or 7000 cst silicone diff oil. It's available all the way up to 100,000 cst. You should be good with the 5000 or 7000, 10,000 may be a little too much especially for a 4 cyl. i.e. more lock up that takes more HP to run. Be gentle on the o-ring when you take it apart since its 20+ years old."

i heard the fluid is replaceable and that doing it is far superior to the aftermarket units

this was covered many moons ago on this board.  the fluid was(at that point) still available from Toyota.  Or you can run the RC shock oil as quoted from Pirate.

Are you saying the oil is no longer available from the dealer??

I don't know..I've never waste time trying to rebuild one.  It might still be available.
