Topic: TOYOTA AXLES IN A JEEP

Has anyone on this forum put 8 inch toyota axles in a jeep? I am thinking about buying a set of 85 minitruck axles, putting aussie lockers, longfields and a marlin high steer in and on them then slinging them under my 77 cj 5. I dont want to do all the work only to find out that they wont hold up to a 360 and 36 inch iroks.How much can they handle? and what are the challenges of swapping them into a jeep? Thanks for all the input, I asked the same question on pirate and was told to come here and look up Brandon, one of the guys on pirate thought he did one. I am curious specifically about how compatable the two brake systems are. I was thinking of just using sae to metric adapters at the brake hoses, keeping the stock master cylinder.  I was also curious if there was a cheap way to do the driveshafts.  I would like to here feedback on whats the maximum horsepower and tire size that a set of axles with aussies and longs can handle reliably?

There is a guy in our club who has Toyota axles under his YJ.  What he ended up doing is putting in a D300 t/c and runs 36's.  I think the setup is actually kinda cool if you really want to keep your jeep and the Toyota axles can be strong enough to hold the hp if you don't go crazy on your tire size.  Run 30 splines and choose a good locker like a ARB or Detroit.  You won't be disappointed.  Also keep your r/p size around 4.88's for strength.  You don't need to go to a 5.29 if you have a v8.
