Chevy springs
« on: Jan 26, 2011, 07:37:26 PM »
I'm thinking about replacing my rear springs w/ chevy springs. I know they come in 63" but do they come shorter? Reason being, I bobbed my bed and the access frame so I can't relocate rear spring hangers. Any suggestions?

79coyotefrg: what year f150's? does it matter if it's off a 2wd?
I like your setup because you're not using blocks.

the thing I dislike about the chevy springs is that you have use blocks...

2wd F150 springs late 80's to mid 90's. 2wd are 2.5" and 4wd are 3".

I guess it depends on how your front end is on whether or not you have to use blocks. On my last Tacoma I ran 63s with frenched hangers and no blocks and it worked good and sat level.

I think mine were from a 89 F150 2wd.  the 4wd springs are too wide.  i use a double shackle setup with a stock toy shackle attached to a f150 shackle with a 22R motor mount with the top stud plate (that goes on the engine side) cut off and welded upside down under the frame so the ford shackle rests on that instead of the frame.

I also run 12 inch shocks / \

This sounds stupid but, would blocks allow the springs flex better than straight spring?

NO  and if in a bind the blocks can spit out leaving you stuck on the trail

No just drop the blocks and get bigger springs! I did and I don't miss the blocks at all.

X1000 on the F150 springs just as much flex IMHO with out the  :moon: dragin over hang... With my flat bed and no wheel wells to worry about I was able to push my rear axle back quite abit by using the factory rear spring front hanger location.

I agree. From the looks of it, 79coyotefrg gets decent flex from f150. I'm leaning towards that way so far.
