looking to sas my taco with leafs on the cheap and easy ( relatively ) when my joints and rack take a dump here in about 20k miles. I'm sure there is a writeup somewhere here but I'm not finding one easily.  pros and cons for drivers drop and pas drop.  lefty is pricy what about adapters to run behind the 5sp to gear driven yota right hand drop? so many choices.... HELP got 2k saved for sas already.

Early 80's Jeep Wagoneer D44
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

yea id rather keep it roughly the width of the rear axle.  id like to keep it drivers side drop so i can just use my stock case for now.  your rig is so nice btw i watched that build up.  My neighbor has an old hilux just like that one and it makes me wish i could fab and weld like you. :)

thanks i was looking around and found that sky has a new sas kit out for the taco.  Anyone have any opinions about it? 1950 don't sound to bad for what you get. 7.5 in lift sounds like a lot tho.

The drop really has to do with you t/c and your exhaust that runs down you passenger side. it will be cheaper for you to do a driver side drop. You can run your t/c you have right now and you dont have to mess with your exhaust.

what drive train do you wont to run (axle, tranny, t/c)? Do you have an axle?

if you are looking to spend around 2k that will be tuff if you dont have an axle, that will tack a good size chunk of your 2k.

good read, it will give you a good idea of the cost. he dose not have all the cost but i would bet over 3k. i Have always hear to plane on 3k to 10k to do a sas on a taco. the axle will the big kicker

I used a ford HP 44 for my swap. The HP is nice and drivers drop made more room around the exhaust and links for me. I kept it full width tho. I also used the ford 9" rear end. I found a complete non-running 78 F-150 on craigslist for $500 and took the axles and a gas tank then scraped the rest.

like it's been said, 2K will go fast! I did a 3 link with coil overs but the little things add up quick if you dont cut any corners and build it right the first time...

heres a link to my build for some ideas. http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=54649.0  Good luck. PRE-PLAN then Plan some more. :twocents:

I have this on my Taco, with a D44 out of a Waggy. The ride is better than the stock IFS, it flexes like crazy, and is adjustable. Needs limit straps and bumpstops or you will blow out them purdy coilovers :D

Id go for a waggy 44 or a diamond front. You can have a diamond cut for your specific WMS you want and there pretty bling and would be the more costly of the two. Waggy 44's are about 60" stock, i forget what a toyota rear is but you may would have to run a small spacer on both sides to widen it just a bit and they have an 8.5 ring gear. I got mine from a late 80s maybe early 90s grand waggy (it was the last year they made the grand wagoneer i forget what year) with a set of flat tops and lock outs for $200, which is a pretty damn good deal but i have to rebuild the whole thing anyways so that shouldnt be that bad.

Mines going in my jeep not my taco. But if i did a SAS, i'd do a drivers drop diamond 3-linked, only if money wasn't an issue. I don't like leaf springs and a link suspension isn't that complicated, just seems to scare people a lot more then it should i think. Also seems easier to make it lower with a link set up over a leaf sprung.

So why not run a FJ60 Front. Thats what I have chosen. 58" wheel mount surface. I'll add spacers to get 60". Then gear drivin cases.
