I have had a couple of friends do it and as far as I know they did not hack into their body mounts at all. Why do you think you have to?

I think he means the part of the body mount bracket that hangs below the frame rail surface on a factory SA truck :psss:.  Is that, right?  I looked at doing that on mine as a possibilty down the road and figured I would cut that bracket to make it flush with the bottom suface of the frame rail in order to be able to install the front spring hanger.  I don't see a problem with doing this as long as it's welded in corrrectly and access to/removal of the body bolt is not affected.

exactly wut i was talking about, sry if i didnt make it that clear, ill just have to make it flush with the frame rail so i can have a solid metal to metal contact with the new hanger for the most weld room. btw i cant even post a pic of it cuz its saying its way to large.

On the pic thing, you'll have to resize them to atleast 100KB or less so they will post.  :beerchug:

I cut them flush and welded them to the hanger as a gusset.  We pushed the hanger forward to try to keep the tires out of the firewall.   It worked, but my shackle angle is bad as a result.  I wouldn't do it the same way again.  We went about 3/8" forward of flush with the factory crossmember and my shackles are pretty much vertical.  Of course every truck is a little different, so I'd clamp it in place and put the weight on the truck to see where you are before you weld it.

They are AllPro springs.  I did not move the spring hanger forward that much from stock.  I wonder if that is a 79-83 thing?  Mine is an 85, I would have a better shackle angle if I had left the spring hanger in the same location as stock (just dropped 2" with the aftermarket hanger)

yea see now im confused i guess when i get my springs im just going to tack up/clamp up the new hanger and put some weight on it and see where my shackle angle is at and go from there.
