Yet another SAS hanger question...
« on: Jan 19, 2017, 01:33:21 AM »
So the donor Extended cab came with Sky's Offroad hanger with logo. It's only stitched to the frame. The hanger looks good, and I don't mind cutting it off the frame, so long as it's in decent condition once I remove it..

This is the hanger style:

I'm going to cut it off the frame no matter what..

Or I'd be willing to design and build my own hanger.. depending on what designs you guys have used successfully in the past.. or seen used..

I want to move the front axle forward as far as reasonably possible while maintaining this as a daily, as well as not having my steering box moved too crazy..

If you aren't willing to move your steering box forward a lot then use the hanger in its normal location. What springs are you running again? Your standard All-Pro, Trail-Garbage, Sky's etc. etc. usually move axle forward about 1.5". This will clear 35s after pounding in the pinch seam in the front firewall. That hanger is a good quality hanger same as everything else done by Sky. Run it.

Sky makes great parts, but I would box the bottom of the hanger.

I'm willing to move the steering box forward, but can't go much further than the front clip...

I'd like to move the front axle forward 2.5 inches.

I've got access to a set of 2nd gen rears that i could buy from a buddy.

I'm also wanting to hang the shackles in front of the body mounts instead of inside them. Using a set of boomerangs

Could go with this. Keep her nice and low and not have that issue.

Build your own and put a 2" receiver in it. Makes a great tool for many things, 2" mounting points like clevises and hooks, removable license plate mount.  I have also hooked trailer hitches in mine to use the winch to drag other vehicles onto my trailer.

Use either square tube or real heavy channel for the cross member portions.   Also make yourself a couple mounting holes in the front hanger at different ride heights for future tuning and tweaking.

Like the one I made on my boy's truck...

I saw that...

I like the "high" profile hanger not only because it's free (already here), but also because it has their logo and i could use the reinforcement upfront..

If this one doesn't remove cleanly, I'll consider that hasn't as a contingency

I built my own. 1.5x3x.188 wall and 3x3x.25. super easy and I haven't had any issues. Im pretty sure I drilled the hole 1.5" back and 2" down from the top. I can double check the measurements this weekend.

Eh, it's all CNC cut, and whoever welded the hanger together definitely didn't weld it to the frame... It almost looks tig welded

I'd build a better IFS setup. It's the wave of the future. That being said, I always liked Sky's products.
