Satelite Internet
« on: Jun 05, 2006, 05:38:18 AM »
Ok I'm tired of not being able to listen to music, look at pictures without having to wait 30+ minutes to download, and video  :yikes: fogetaboutit.

Any way,has anyone had any experiences with satelite internet.Where I live dial-up is my only option besides satelite. No cable or dsl access within 5 miles.

I know the satelite is a little expensive, but is it worth it.I just don't wanna have to pay 60 or 100 bucks for something that isn't any better.

Don't know if you are using a laptop or desktop, but I have sprints wireless on my laptop.  It is 80 a month, not quite as fast as cable, but MUCH better than dial-up.
IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

I'm kinda in the same boat.  Just a little too far from town for cable or dsl.  They'll install dsl out here if we can get enough people to sign a petition, but I've yet to see the petition that's supposed to be floating around here.  They're putting in several very high priced homes across the street though, so I'd be willing to bet it won't be too long...

http://www.gethughesnet.com  Another option but costs a little more.

Satelite service is not bad if you have no other option.

A buddy of mine was in the same boatas you and he went to www.starband.com and has this system.  It gets cheaper each year you have it!  According to the residental listing, $70 a month for the first year, $60 the sec year, and $50 the third if I remember right!  It's not as fast as higher end DSL or Cable, but it's alot faster than dialup.  I have the basic dsl (256k)and I love it.  It sure beats the hell out of 45.3k.
Miss ya Dean (4THEWKN) & Kyle (KYOTA)!!

I know someone with this one and he love it because he can contact people and he lives in the middle of the forest with no phone or power (except generator) with no other people around for 10 miles up a dirt road...
RIP Kyota.... you are the man

GET IT!!!

I was also pretty close to getting satelittle internet since I used to live in the boondocks up in the Santa Cruz mountains for 3 years. 56k is painful. But fortunately I moved back to civilization and run with Comcast Cable.

If you have nothing else.. it is a bit faster.. but unpredictable.. it'll crash on you alot (from my experiances)

I hated it... but of course i've got the option of cable so....

It's better then Dial up.. but not worth the price.
