As for your stereo, get a capacitor.  Here is some ideas.  They will help keep from killing your alt/batt.  They are a coil basically, ready to discharge voltage.

Search is your friend here, or the net, period.  If you got hours to kill, search Pirate4x4.  Glenn on Marlin has two alternators in his truck for when he needs the extra amperage.
