It was the terrible chest pains I was getting that really helped my motivation this last time. 
happened to 2 heavy smokers at work, one of which had smoked for over 50 years! He woke up one day with very bad chest pains, couldn't breath and said the hell with it. He quit cold turkey that day, despite having tried to quit off and on for the past few years, and had no issues after that!
