85 STD cab frame. When to replace or move on???
« on: Sep 13, 2015, 06:34:57 PM »
Bought a Midwest Toyota here and OR and the rust has fought me every since I bought it.... I fixed the usual spot i see other people have problems with right where the gas tank mounts stock. Now I've found another crack right behind where my cases mount and the outside of the frame just bows when you poke and prod at it. The cab is already done for I know that much. How much of the stock frames have you guys repaired or just replaced all together?
Will try and get some pics up soon. Thanks!

I think this would boil down to, do you have the means and equipment and skill to fab one yourself, heck or the time. I would not be driving something that I could push or prob frame, sounds like problem in the makings, maybe pics would help us determine

That is unfortunate.  Thankfully, i live in california and we dont see much rust here.  I know a lot of guys have us POR15? I think is what it is called, but if your frame is already that far gone i think the only solution is to either cut out the whole section and weld in new pieces, however with rust like that i would think it would be spread all over, if that is the case you might be looking to swap frames which is a decent project in itself.

Sounds like it's time to move on.  I'm at the same point with my 80, the frames been patched in 4 different spots and it's broke again.  On of the downfall of living in the northeast I guess.
