Thanks, it's not perfect. But a much better platform than nothing. And results in less down time for the truck. Still hunting a tailgate

My friend that's all about some wiring lives a little north of here and wouldn't be able to come down for a while, so yesterday got it loaded up and hauled to his house. Looks odd between his ls400 and his mr2 with a 2gr swap. :driving:

2gr swap?! Pics! Nice build man. My first gen needs some love.

It had a hot little 4 cylinder with a massive hair dryer. I want to say it was making over 450 whp. Drivability became an annoyance so he opted to go back to a na engine with enough power to make him smile and still have fun on the road courses he runs. I'll see if he has any pictures he can send me.

BigMike will appreciate this if he sees it.

It's an awesome little car. Linear power is killer on that engine. I have a vr4 stealth and it's fun but the mr2 will slay it on a track.

Back to the brown turd build. I got the cluster from the parts truck it's showing 160k. The 3rz has 150 so that's close enough it will be swapped in. I'm not seeing any difference in the clusters other than a 4wd indicator (not important to me) is there anything on missing? Both are sr4 clusters with tach.

I got it to fire up and all the gauges work except the oil pressure (no sender). I have the fan wired in and will be working on little stuff the next couple days. This is my second 3rz wiring swap. The 22re was a lot easier than this one.

redneckcustoms13

you are the man, sorry it isnt as easy as the re-rz swap you did for Frank. i wish i had the knowledge and patience to deal with that headache.

And by patient, I mean like that feeling a 5 year old had the night of Christmas eve waiting to get that new bicycle the next morning and can't sleep.

We know it isn't the engine temp sensor because ecm is reading temp. Maybe iac

Took the gauge cluster from parts truck apart and done a little cleaning and polishing of the lense and gauges. Also set the odometer at 150k like the engine has on it.

Thats one clean cluster for how old your truck is. I love the 1st gen clusters. So much cooler looking that ours :(

redneckcustoms13

Lense was all scratched up, it had some mud and dirt in it. Didn't get any before pictures just a few as I was pudding with puting it together. Plan on driving that rig home on a 2 hour shake down ride saturday. Got to take this cluster and the rear driveshaft.

All done for now. Waiting on Hunter to bring a drive shaft and front transfer case seal. Also the IAC is unresponsive. It will need to be dismantled and cleaned thoroughly .

And a finished shot of the 2GR engine bay.

redneckcustoms13

Hopefully we can have success tomorrow

Nice work and welcome to the forum.

Ben has had some pretty cool projects. He's a great electrician. Possibly why that's his profession lol

It made the road trip home. Still have to finish up ac, build bumpers, change gears to 4.38 because the 4.56 is a littlw too much for my liking on 33s. Found out there is a short somewhere in the tail/running lights tonight.

It had a few stored codes. Did the 10k ohm .5 watt  resistor in the egr temp sensor. Got rid of all except the auto trans codes. I've been back through the 3rz thread. Has anyone found a solution other than a manual ecm. All I can find is one for $200 on ebay.

Before resistor.

Resistor

10 mile drive afterward

After the day of puting shaft in and puting interior back together ans driving it home I love it. Put over 250 miles on it this weekend. It pulls my hunting boat well.

As figured the valve cover is leaking. Grabbing some seals might swap it this evening
