I know this is an old thread but do you still have any 2wd w55-59 transmissions?

I"M CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR a W55 2wd transmission that will match up to a 22r in a truck.   Does anyone know if I can use a w-58 without much of a problem?  I don't believe I can since mine is setup with a 22r in a truck and the w-58 were matched to diffrent engines in cars.  Right?

Usually the w58 is more expensive. Don't buy it with the w58 bellhousing because the w58 bellhousing has a different bolt pattern. You need to put a w55 w56 g52 g54 bell housing on it to make it bolt to your 22r engine

Thank you Erick.  But even with the correct bellhousing (which I have and can switch out), the shifter isn't going to line up with the hole, right?  Because the 22r in my case is truck based and the w58 is car based.  I heard it will be off up to a few inches.   Can you verify or dispute that?

There are w58 top shift and forward shift as well so i am not sure which model you source is.  It could have a mechanical speedo input or an electronic sensor

Top shift and forward shift are style of T-cases attached to transmissions. As W58's they only came as top shift, but that wouldn't matter for a 2wd transmission.

So both of you guys are fairly certain that a W58 will match up to my 22r  2wd as long as it has the correct bell housing or I have one from the original transmission (which I do).  I don't know which 4 speed it is though, L40/42 or W40/42.  The vehicle no longer has a VIN plate.
thank you.

The earlier 4  speeds  were  shorter so the driveshaft is longer

Would you happen to know if a W55 will work in a rig that originally had a W52?
'85 2WD Toyota Pickup
Bottom-end: Pre-long block 22R with LCEngineering internals.
Top-end: 20R head with 22R valves - dual springs, LCE Pro Turbo Camshaft (456 lift, 270 in - 276 out), mild port work.
32/36 Weber carb in, and custom built headers out.
In process of throwing a KO3 turbo out of an Audi A4 into it. Just need exhaust manifold and plumbing done.

Also, have an '87 Corolla FX-16 in the process of rebuilding. Started knocking on me 2 weeks after purchase, with supposed rebuild 20k ago.
It's a sick little sleeper though.

the length of the transmissions is a little different so it will need a matching driveshaft

Hey, thanks for the reply man. I've been trying to find a transmission to replace my dead W52 - found a guy with a W55 but that looks like it wont work since they're different lengths, and he's keeping his drive-line.
Do you know this from personal experience, or is there a tech writeup somewhere on the lengths and/ or spline differences etc. that a person could work out whether a trans. would be swappable? Been searching all over a bunch of forums and there just doesn't seem to be much info on the 2WD transmissions where there is for the 4WD models. Would love to know what transmissions will and wont work in my rig.
