I'm looking for a good cup holder solution.
« on: Apr 25, 2014, 11:52:47 PM »
Has anyone found a good solution to cup holders in a First Gen truck or 4Runner? I am making some changes to my interior and that has to be one of them. I want to see what others have come up with so I can steal some ideas.

Thanks.

That is a sweet looking can holder (with nice cans). But I'm still going to spill my coffee. Unless she will hold that too.  ;-)

i got some pvc tubing i had laying around that fit a can and i cut 2 of them out and gorilla glued them to the inside of my 50. cal ammo can i used as a console bolted to my floorboard, work fine so far but can only fit cans and water bottles and on the trail they splash out some times but its easier to clean up splashes than full on spills.

I bought a cheap ($5) plastic two cup, cupholder at Fred Meyer and painted it maroon to match my interior. Then I made a bracket that attatched it to the shifter boot screws. Looked factory and worked flawlessly. It interfered with the seat sliding forward to access the back seats, so I pulled it out. It would have been perfect for a pickup though.

I used a Clutter Cutter center console that was given too me. They can be picked up for about 40 bucks at the Zone. It is too long for a 1st gen 4 runner, so i cut the rear pocket off, then broke the top cup holder off and moved it forward. A little bit of epoxy and it was back together. It is a tight fit between the seats, but it makes up for it in cargo space and I now have 4 cup holders. I had to move my factory switches to the switch holes above the radio, and extend the wiring, but it looks clean, and it is much better than the factory console. I am sure this would be a no go for anyone that has duel cases. When that time comes I plan on custom building a console.

 I've been using a roll of duct tape, but it's not very fool-proof. If you use half the tape,it's useless as a cup holder;full coffee mug and a sharp corner combine into a recipe for disaster-hope you don't have anything up front that can't take a coffee bath. I have a console I was given that has GREAT cup holders, but the console is too big for everything I own. I plan to switch to bucket seats, and can use it then. Those boaters pivoting deelies work pretty well,I have one on my Harley, but in a four wheeler, especially when you get on the side/side oscillating bumps for a distance (like crossing a rock patch) or really rough ground, they've been known to invert and empty the drink onto the floor,or whatever's directly under 'em. OR-just tuck your drink between your thighs during the rough sections;the seat will dry out soon enough. :rofl2: I know we've all thought,"Why couldn't I put a little gyro on a cup holder?" Eventually somebody's bound to come up with one;then it'll just be a matter of working up the $$$$ for one,and finding a place for it.

I always found boat ones handy. They weeble and they even wobble. So it won't spill your drink.

I have a couple of those magnetic coozies  and those suckers are awesome. Stick right on my cage. Holds a full mountain dew perfect for me. And I suck it outside on my fender and smashed through the river bed and still stayed there with a full unopened can.

I used one like jimbo has,cut the hook off it,and screwed the holder to my "console" with a sheetrock screw through the bottom. It's ugly, but that's okay-the rest of the truck's no beauty queen either,so it fits right in with the decor. Works fine, except my dog "belly-fuzzes" my coffee mug when she gets in the truck.

I bought a set of Smittybuilt cup holders from 4wheelparts. They velcro around the roll cage and they hold cans, bottles, and coffee mugs  pretty good. They were cheap, $9 for a set of 2.
