Just wanted to say hi to all the Mc users!! I recently baught a '88 toyota pick up and decided to start my research! It's a pretty straight truck. New tires, mew front end, canopy, nice interior and no rust on the frame!!!! Down side it has 297xxx miles on it!!! Previous owner replaced the timing chain three years ago....seems to be running strong still. Has a little leak somewhere but haven't really tried to find it yet.

Looking forward to building it and hearing some feedback!

Check the front oil seal and the half-moon plugs on the valve cover.

If that's it, replace with toyota OEM seal.   Aftermarket front seals are worthless (after market half-moon ok)

Prismo- I've been Ellensburg for a year now and was in Wenatchee for a year before that.

I took a look at the half-moon plugs on the valve cover and there isn't any oil coming from there. There is a chance it could be the front oil seal but it's to hard to know for sure considering the amount of oil caked to EVERYTHING...the previous owner said the valve cover gasket leaked and he got it replaced and thats why there is so much build up everywhere. It looks like it could also be coming from the back side of the engine also....Hopefully this weekend I can clean it up and try and spot it.

297,000 is not a bad thing it's just getting broken in by that time. :gap:

Ya I love these motors!!! They seem to run forever. I had an '86 with '38 TSL's and it would struggle going up hills but I drove that thing hundereds of miles at a time with no problems! Stock gearing too :)

Thanks for all the friendly welcomes! I've always liked how friendly and help full everyone is on these forums.
