So i have a 92 Toyota I'm looking to SAS i got the axle all rebuilt ready to go in. But I'm not sure what size leafs i should get. I want to run 37's. Do i need bigger springs in the front or back? Where should i buy my springs?

Cyberman

First question is how much lift do you have already?

4in rough country. on 35's. its still ifs right now though

Cyberman

You're in the same boat I was in.  Went from a 4" RC lift to a SAS with 3" springs.  I am still running the blocks in the rear.  Currently running 35s with a 1" body lift.  Could possibly run 37s as is, but have stock birfs.

Alright cool. Yeah this is my first SAS. I bought the axle without knowing anything. But i read threads about rebuilding and i think i got it down pretty good. Do i run bigger springs in the back to make it sit level?

junya92toy

You can do a few things, different springs, blocks, shackles
Dr.Maxwe001 – well i have a 15 gal compressor now and if I gett he 60  and then use the 15 as a reserve that wil give me 75 gal  thats close to 80 isnt it ?

NICKTHOMAS

i dont want to run blocks. and i was looking at the trail gear 5in lift springs. where would those get me sitting at?

junya92toy

Dude, 5 inches higher. I dont know, I dont have your truck, I dont know the spring rate, the weight of the truck, I dont know if you have longer shackles already.  But its called a 5 inch lift spring for a reason

I don't want to run blocks either, but I am until I can afford new rears.  I am satisfied with the lift that the RC kit gave, and the 3" springs kept me at the same height.  5" springs would make your rig 2" higher than it is currently.

If you want to keep your height, then put 3" leafs front and rear.  I used a 1" body lift to clear the 35s.  4" leafs would put you 1" higher than you are now.  5" =2" higher, etc..

Off topic, but you do think the less then one inch clearance of 37s over 35s is worth the cost?

So. I went down to Olympic today and bought the spring hanger kit from trail gear. It comes with 5in shackles. How high does that put me now?

Cyberman

That kit will add 1" of lift to whatever size spring you get.

Also, you will need some other stuff like shock hoops, brake lines, etc.

I got some shock hoops too. They are 13in tall. How big of shocks do i use? Or does that depend on the leaf size also?

junya92toy

No, neither one, it depends on the travel between the shock mounting points

Yes, and I wouldn't deal with anyone else but All-Pro including the SAS. They are the original SAS company and have it down to a science on what you will need. Anyone else is just copying the original. I've also heard nightmares from people using the copycats.

4 inch lift is fine.

I much perferred a lower lift and trim the body to clear than just having a high lift to clear 37.

Stay away from body lift....

Are allpro's the same length as trail gears? Cause i bought the trail gear spring hanger.

What kind of lift do you have on yours?

Just what I was referring too.  (copycats)  Was just talking to a guy that couldn't get that junk to line up right. May be an individual issue but when the product doesn't go together like it should or the measurements don't match the advertised numbers then you have an issue after you weld it in. My suggestion would to be make sure all the measurements including the products themselves match what it should be.

His main problem was he could not fit the springs into the hangers. He had a military wrap and they would hit the hangers.

That's too bad. I hope i don't have that problem.

You need to get everything setup the way you want it, springs, shackles etc. set  Make sure you set your bumpstops too, so you dont over arch the spring. Once all that is done, go ramp it somewhere. Measure one side for compression, then measure the other side for extension. Then you can look at a chart from the shock maker, and it will give you how far it extends and compresses. You want to leave the shock a little room for going in and out, so you dont bottom it out and damage it
