No fuel would cause the engine to die, not lock up.

kinda sounds like the pinion bearing is GONE and when you let off the gas the pinion coasts right into the carrier and grabs it.
chock the front wheels, drop the drive shaft, check to see if the flange is loose.  if it is remove and then remove the seal and take a look at the bearing. my guess is you'll remove it in small pieces.

I remember when 4TheWkn and I came off of Shaver Lake with only front wheel drive.  And loosing the front pinion doing 65mph along Jensen Ave.  We came to a stop, real quick.

I'd be tearing into axles to see what needs replaced.

its all that chrome and red paint.....

but seriously, might be spark related, if that intake tube is metal your coil wire could be arching on it....  this is one of those annoying problems that can be either really easy once you find it, or a nightmare...

I seem to have pretty much the same problem just not as pronounced, mine doesnt happen as much since i did the timing belt....

BTW sick looking truck... needs a the Total Chaos suspension treatment

When I first got mine in 98 I would be going down the road and it would just shut down, coast a bit the fire back up. My neighbor who was a lead tech at Roseville Toyota brought home test equipment and could not find anything wrong. He tested everything.

I changed the spark plug and coil wires and it has never done it again. I used OEM wires from the dealer. When he tested the wires they all tested good.

Is it locking up as in seizing, or do you mean shutting down and not responding to throttle input?

If the engine is just shutting down to idle, it could be a speed sensor.  Back in ‘96 my ‘90 started shutting down to idle while cruising along at highway speeds, down shifting nor flooring it had any effect, then after a few seconds the engine would just come back to life and perform w/o issue.  It took about 16 months and 3 trips to the dealer before ecu ever registered a code.  It was diagnosed as bad speedometer speed sensor, the sensor was telling the ecu that vehicle wasn’t moving, causing the ecu to shut everything down.

Your brain?
Really though, you need to give more detail, define locks up, does the engine lock up and tires skid, does it just die?
Locking up means the engine stops, and the tires skid,
Does the engine just die, as in not producing power anymore and the rpms drop?
Dr.Maxwe001 – well i have a 15 gal compressor now and if I gett he 60  and then use the 15 as a reserve that wil give me 75 gal  thats close to 80 isnt it ?

The Tires do not skid, and the truck dose not die. The the RPMs drop to 0 then back to were it was within a second, maybe less then a second they seem to vary. the truck dose not lose any power. minus how bad the lock misfire what ever i should call it idk it feels like a jerking sensation. when it happens my front end drops a little from my suspension compressing. there is a slight clunk noise sometime in low speeds like after i grab 2nd gear and i am about 3k rpms this is rare though. at night my lights do not dim fad or flash.

At low speeds i do sometimes after i get of the freeway and im going around 25 to 35 mph i smell a hint of gas

sometime i go to start my truck and it takes about haf a turn to start my truck, but sometime it takes like 4 or 5 turns idk if this matters just saying lol

You guys still dont make sense. He said it doesnt lose power or die,but the rpms go to zero?
So is it just a bad gauge or cluster?

yea but you havent helped describe  the problem at all.   he said the engine doesnt die nor do the rear wheels lock up so it is NOT "locking up"
