Leaf Spring Advise
« on: Feb 25, 2005, 04:01:00 PM »
Please pass along any experience/advise for Marlin, All Pro & AOR (Alcan) rear springs.  I want to upgrade my rear springs without relocating the rear shackle.  I have been told the Marlin and All Pro standard springs are a bit stiff for a pickup (mine is 1985) and soft for a 4runner.  I am thinking about the All Pro 20% reduced springs but I have heard mixed reveiws of their product. I am confident that Marlin has a good product if they are soft enough.  AOR are probably the best, but also expensive.  Minimizing Cost is important.

:bat: think their customer service= a LOT of   :bull crap: or  :pokinit: . Take your pick. I really don't want to get out the  :soapbox: and the reason I didn't want to post it publicly is beacause I don't want to start  :argue: with someone who might still like them, and if they do fine. In my opinion that company is still a bunch of  :chicken: :pokinit: :gay: :gay: :gay: :gay: :gay: :gay: :gay: :gay: :gay: :gay: :gay: :gay: :gay: :gay: :gay: :gay: :gay: :gay: :gay: :gay: :gay: :gay: :gay: :gay: :gay: :gay: :gay: :gay: :gay: :gay: :gay: :gay: :gay:

After doing more research, I am currently planning on going with a stock length spring directly for Alcan.  Since I am not looking for "buggy" flex and also trying to reduce overall cost, a soft (120-150 spring rate per Alcan) set of stock length springs and a 2" lift shackle should give me adequate flex and keep me from purchasing spring hangers and trying to get them installed (i.e. pay someone to weld or find a friend with equipment and time).  Also the spring purchase cost is slightly less than All Pro keeping to actual spring cost relatively low since I have access to a lift for install.  Any comments on this plan?  I have seem some amazing Alcan springs setups in Moab that didn't look very long and had a lot of arch.  Anybody running stock length Alcans in the range of 3-4"?
