Thanks man.

I figured out why the passenger side hub didn't want to turn.

Time to find a spindle and order some bearings and seals.

I've been doing some of the busy work as of late waiting on parts.

Burned off the old sliders and cleaned up the frame in preparation for some new ones.

Started on a little body work since I'm going to have some tube there to protect it in the future.

Got my knuckles and hubs blasted and painted the knuckles

I need to get the hubs washed out since the are full of media and reassembled. My replacement spindle came in and looks acceptable .

The D60 is fully stripped down and waiting on parts. I dropped the gears/locker off with Ray and Joe to get put together.

Wow, look at that spindle, it will make a great paperweight

good thing about a 60 is they come apart and go back together so fast and u dont need all that excessive grease toyota axles require.

yea that spindle looked knar

That is one thing that has surprised me on these domestic axles. Very easy to work on and put together. Only downfall is the overall weight of them.

Teardown has started. Kingpin rebuild parts are in. Body work on the xtra cab portion is just about complete.

Only downfall is the overall weight of them.

The nice thing is all that added weight is unsprung which should help with stability.

For sure it will definitely add some stability . Just wish they were a bit lighter moving around the shop floor

Decided to clean up my trans tunnel and cover while the interior was ripped out of the truck. It never was sealed up well the first time and didn't have any soda holders. The first version let a crap ton of heat and fumes into the cab. Hopefully this will eliminate a little of that. I built a frame out of 5/8 square tubing and cleaned up the cuts on the tunnel. The top cover comes off by removing 4 bolts that go into some nut zerts. Still doing some finishing touches on it. I need to weld it out, enlarge the hole for the crawl box and shoot a coat of paint on it.

I spent some time working on my Skys offroad front spring hanger.

Dave @ Brave Motorsports took some measurements and cut out 3 gussets and a lower piece of 3/16" plate to fully box in the hanger. The gussets key into the lower plate. These hangers are prone to bending over the course of wheeling so this is a much needed modification.

Dave saved the CAD file and will be offering these through his website.

I've been slowly getting together the font end. The D60 is almost there. Just waiting on my disc brakes to show up.

I almost have the tube bed where I want it as well. I added some perpendicular bed rails and have enough room for a full size spare.

Got my 37s sold on Saturday

I picked up the Lakesea Big Rock 40s last night.

Hodor.

I boxed in my Sky's front hanger for the same reason.  Mine wasn't that fancy though, wish I would have known about that kit! Super clean

boomtacoma01

Dave has only made 2 of them so far. Mine was the second. The hardest part was getting the internal braces tacked into place ( which he kindly did for me) with it being keyed on the bottom it was easy to burn in.

Nice build. Really like the tube work. What kind of tube Bender do you have or use?

boomtacoma01

I don't have a bender. My buddy has a shop and bent a few of the tubes for me, one was a repurposed harness bar and the rails were cut and notched to turn them 90 degrees. I do have a JD2 notchmaster. It's worth having for this.

Got a little accomplished tonight.

New pitman arm with the Chevy DL taper installed and centered up fairly close. I finished drilling out my front hanger with a dull as drill bit. Had to do that to prove a point to myself and I wasn't spending 20 bucks for a bit I was going to use once. I got my hydro assist mocked up and disc brake brackets installed akin with the spindles. Just waiting on my wheel studs so I can finish assembling the 60.

I got the axle leveled out and tacked in my driver side spring perch so I can start fitting the front hanger in place.

What did you use to weld the tabs on that cast center section of the housing?

I got the 60 mocked up last night. I'm still going to move the front hanger back another 1.5 inch. Axle is at full droop as of right now. Everything clears except for the tie rod being extremely close to the pass side u-bolt and nut.  I need to trim the u-bolts on the driver side since they are way too long.

NICE! they are what i was just gonna recommend to you, probably the best on the market for a 60, i loved mine on my old 1 ton runner.

All brackets off little bit of grinding left.

Next in the list: clean up hubs, re pack with grease, install disc brakes, pinion guard, brake lines and tabs, axle perches....

Should have it in by the end of the weekend..

nice job on that shave, what did you use?also are you going with a disc brake kit or just piecing together your own?making me want to put tons under my 91 ex cab but then i think about how much $$ is involved in this swap.

The shave was pretty easy. The Barnes 4wd 14B cover is clearanced. All you do is lay it on and you see exactly how much needs to come off the bottom of the diff. About 1.25" is what is advertised which is what mine was.
I have the lugnut 4x4 14b disc brake kit to install. It was easier and just about the same price as piecing a kit together.
