The rebirth.
« on: Feb 21, 2012, 06:58:08 PM »
Well I have been wheeling my old yellow first gen in its current state for about 3 years now and started saving to build a buggy. But after some serious thought I decided to just put a little love into my current truck since it will save a :pokinit: ton of cash. So here is the plan.

dovetailed bed
finish the exo out
propane
resi shocks
new front springs
rebuild the front axle

Today I ditched the bed I have hated for 3 years, cut out the stock cross member, and rewelded the rear frame section.

I think I am going to build a spare parts box in this empty space and plate the frame.

Nice! I love it when hatred of a part/previous build comes to a head and you have to tear it out and rebuild!

Hahaha Now that she is going to be green stickered, I am probably going to dicth the front bumper for much smaller one and dove tail the nose also.

Depending on cash and motivation I want to do dual batteries on top of the sliders behind the cab while I am at it.

Put some frame plating in today to tie the rear together after I took out the stock cross member. Going to do a compression and leak down test also since my motor burns a ton of oil.

Todays plan was to throw the bed on and start cutting but this is how the leak down test went.

But I will never need any of this again!!!!!!

In addition to the motor, I ditched the tank today. Should be plenty of room for two 8 gallon tanks.

Im going with a 383 stroker I have had sitting around. Hahaha Just kidding. Just going to do new rings, hopefully. This was defiantly not planned... So keeping the header, intake and smog stuff is up for grabs.

I don't know, to be honest. Never thought about it. When there is a bed on it, cooler, spare tire, parts, and tools, it has always sat fine and never really affected me. So I will probably leave it, but we will see how it goes.

Good time for sure!

Didn't do too much yesterday. Pressure washed the motor, got my exhaust pipe, and cleaned up my new intake.

Well, my motor is done. Luckily I got 5,000 whole miles out of it. Almost a dollar a mile. The supposed 'amazing' motor builder who came with great recommendations won't warranty anything, saying I overheated the motor my last trip out(a trip I had a brand new temp gauge). He is F*CKED but there is nothing I can really do.

Talked to Cary a got propane for half an hour, really cool guy. Ordering his kit tomorrow.
Talked to Yotaman and he is building me a motor which should be ready in 2 weeks. And signed up for 5 overtime shifts. Hahaha

Some old timer who came with great recommendations. Anyway, he sucked.

Didn't do to much today but plated the top of my steering box mount. I still need to clean up all my welds from when I repaired my frame. Because there were too many blind welds in there when the motor was in the way.

http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=84439.0;highlight=frame+repair

I am also going to replace my square headlight bezels with these round ones and put 6 in HIDs in them for better lighting.
