rock crawling needs a low speed torque makin tractor engine.   that leave the 1uz out in the cold.

Idk about the weight difference but I have heard lots of good stuff about the 1uzfe.  Weight would be my major deciding factor.

The 22 is iron, so is the 3rz and the 5vz. But the 1uz is all aluminum.

  that v8 makes a ton more torque than the little 4 banger...

Just got a 1uz and wired it up with only three wires. It weighs 75lbs more than a 22re. I also have a 2rz for sale right now

There are 2 ls400's in the redding pnp with very clean engines, kinda makes me wanna pull one and all related wiring, go through it and have it ready for whatever.

with the 22r-re-ret series man unless ur missing all 4 pistons it runs strong i would go with the reliability of a 22re with a few little mods ie camshaft, cold air intake, etc. iv beat plenty of V8's in the mud with my stock 22r in my pick up and 22re with a cold air intake and LCE turboocharger in my '86 4runner. the V8 does put out much more power but iv only broken down once in either of my trucks off road with the "r" series and thats when i sunk my pickup and  still have enough power to conquer almost any trail even if its been 90% mud
