Long spline driveshaft question
« on: Dec 18, 2011, 08:08:50 AM »
Which side does the splined end go towards? Diff or transfercase? There is no cv it's just u-joints on both sides. Does it matter which way it goes? Thanks

I run splines on the transfer case side, then you're not going to damage your splines on rocks and stuff

Thanks it seems most that I have seen have the splined side towards the diff which I think should go the other way to protect the splines but not sure why the other way around

Splines on the diff side is the most common. But doest make much of a difference, if your not running a .250 wall tube on it I'd put the spline on the diff side because the tube will fail much easier than the splines when you smack a rock with it.

also, the splined section is smaller, giving it more clearance

My 86 came with the splines on the transfer side.....  (rear)

Up front, the splines are on diff side.
