When was the last time you changed fuel filter?
Checked your oil for water?
Any check engine codes?

every now and then mine will do something similar its quite odd, the engine will actually shut off check engine light will go on then itll roar right back to life, i have no idea why it does it but it does every now and then, and its very hard to diagnose because it happens more randomly then consistantly

Standard or auto?  I'm getting some clutch slip with my 22re/w56, revs stay the same but the truck slows down enough to have to down shift to keep going.  I can feel a slight "buck" while under load sometimes too, time for a Marlin clutch upgrade!

My '90 3.0 did the same thing back in '96-'97.  It took damn near 10k miles and 2 unsuccessful trips to the dealer before it registered a code.  It ended up being a the speed sensor in the speedometer.  It was telling the ecu that I wasn't moving, so the ecu shut everything down.
