well little backround on "Lil Pokey" a friend bought it for me for 600 bucks it was a very rusty truck with hand size holes in the cab i did body work got the body straight except one fender the hood and the tailgate i put "Lil Pokey" on the front DD'd it welded the rear end did some massive donuts and wheeled it (2wd) about a month ago i was hill climbing it and was making the oil go to the back of the engine too long and it developed a decent size knock in the stock 20r. spun a bearing groved the crank ripped the motor out along with the tranny/rearend/ifs and started the swap i got a 85 front axle trussed and armored from the same guy the truck came from got a 6 lug rear end some springs we had layin around and more parts for the front axle waited for awhile and came across a 22r with a 5spd and tcase swapped that in made motor mounts and tranny mounts and spring hanger and that is where im at now all on the stock frame

As of Today this is where it sits and all the crap i took off the motor and one of when i wheeled it. now all i have to do is buy 3/4 heim kit from Ruffstuff. wait for my shackle hangers for the front axle. mount all the power steering stuff and box. take apart the rear axle paint it and rtv the third in and put the hardlines on it. front axle is going to get taken apart and axles put in rtv the third in put the knuckle felts on spindle bolts hubs grease everything front d shaft and gear oil in the axles. motor needs egr and fuel pump block off (i have stock elec. fuel pump) plate the motor mounts, plate the front hanger. earls fittings for the front brake lines and route the new front hardlines because they were bolted to the ifs. hook up clutch. radiator, fan, new carb adaptor for a weber and should be good to go

Took the rear axle out and apart painted the housing black and put it together for good and siliconed the third and now I just need to put it in and we are going to move the front leaf spring hanger so it will move the rear axle back and center it then set it up for a double shackle

Sweet build. Love the grill on those late 70's rigs.  Someday I might 4wd swap my 81 2wd.

sckid831

well i will get some pics later of the truck with the shackles and shackle hangers on and see where it sits what do you guys think i want to put the downey springs that i have in the rear up front so its bigger but then i dont have any lift springs for the back and whats your opinion on running double shackles in the back and the best setup to go with?

sckid831

got all these things mounted or on the truck: radiator, fan, powersteering setup, starter, shackle hangers, alternator and some ghetto steering just to move it around heres some pictures the last picture is my truck sitting next to the truck that i am borrowing from a friend its the same truck but 74 and lowered now all i need is 3/4 heim steering kit and waiting on my weber adaptor also have to move the rear axle back and shim the front to adjust the pinion angle and put the front d-shaft in but will probably wont work till i get square tube to make one oh and it runs and drives with no brakes and a shitty stock carb but brakes are getting finished tomorrow and then weber adaptor when it gets here then put the front axle together and run it

oh about the rear leaf deal, i would add a leaf out of a mazda pickup , and or ask chedder to contact BIRT,, i just pulled a leaf from a pair of all pro 5" leafs ,there 1 yr old and never on a trail , let me know

sckid831

yeah i just need some leafs to sit it level its got 3" ranchos in the back with some kind of rears in the front with the overload taken out i got it to where it is turnkey and i put a magnaflow to side pipe on it and assembled the front axle and shimmed the front because of the rears up front and just have to get one inner hub gear and 3/4 heim steering kit from ruff stuff and its good for the streets the weber adaptor is on its way along with a ifs box mounting kit from sky.pictures tomorrow

sckid831

so what kind of springs do you have?

santa cruz crawler

two all pro rear single leafs  there 2nd from the bottom, but that looks good !! i say run that and see what happens.

sckid831

i think the plan is swap some :pokinit: around in the front and get it to sit level with the back cause you probably know here in sc not so good to be really tall

santa cruz crawler

Yeah , looks sweet next to the black one ! Mabe some custom long shackles ?

sckid831

no i got some 10 inch long ones but they look gay its got double shackle on the back

santa cruz crawler

lets see a pic of the double shackel. do u have bump stops on yet?

sckid831
