Shackle angle looks like crap with the double shackles. I'd take out the upper shackle and see how it looks.

sckid831

it actually looks fine when you look at it

4RunnerChevy

I agree with Peter on this, get longer springs, or lose it.  Not only that but lets see a side shot of whole truck, not flexed.

yeah after looking at it both the shackle angles look like :pokinit: i am going to have to redo some :pokinit: the front is whack too and the one side of the frame is higher then the other side springs must of sagged my buddy doesnt listen to me i said they both looked like :pokinit: but no one listens but looks like im pushing the spring hanger back after he just moved it forward

Peterbuilt84

What springs are you running front and rear?

santa cruz crawler

Yeah you have no drop travel , the rear would be fine if you use one shackle  the front leafs might not work !  Imo.  Rears up front might be what you need .

sckid831

the front are RUF i dont know what kind of spring they are the backs are 4 inch rancho's with no overload

santa cruz crawler

Oh . Ok I think 3 gen rear Toyota leafs are longer 3" I think , Mabe ginos junkyard might have something.I would read up on some build for the 70s pickups befor you keep cutting and welding , I know Andrew , Vance know what there doing, Mabe they can give a hand ,    And tack weld,  and look before  you make a decision  the more drop the better IMO !

Peterbuilt84

Yep, 3rd gen rears are 51" eye to eye. I don't know how long the rancho's are eye to eye, but you might be able to get away with running 3rd gen rears front and back.

SloCrawler

If anything move that hanger foward more. You'll kick yourself moving it back.

sckid831

they were on a 1st gen and vance is the one doing the welding and he moved it forward. i could move it forward more then i would have to move the shackle hangers too. the springs will probably sag a little bit

sckid831

i am in need of a stock replacement pitman arm so i can get my steering on i need one asap for dirt cheap if you have one please let me know that is what is holding me up on my steering is a pitman arm

OldGold3VZE

I really dig the look of a 2wd body used for a 4x4.  Nice and tucked in, no silly huge fenders.  Nice job.

Peterbuilt84

If you still need a pitman arm by the end of next week I have one. Just a stock ifs pitman arm.

sckid831

i got the stock ifs one we cut the ball joint out and welded a 3/4 bolt in for the heim until i can get a pitman arm

box mount is going on today and it will be reliable enough to drive next is rear main seal and find the squeak and noises from the engine compartment otherwise it runs great and is pretty loud i will have to post the video doing donuts

Ya idk if I will go the truck needs the 4.88s to get swapped around because the front 4.88 is in an ifs carrier ans I'm going to take a 5.29 apart for the lockright and put it in the front so I will be locked front and rear

sckid831

I am in the process of buying a 78 and might 4x4 convert it.
How well does your front lift work?
What made you decide to put the shackles in the back? VS front?
What hanger kit did you use, if any?  Did you space it more from the frame(due to higher front on the 2wd frame) (frame to ground relation, not front to rear)
How is your axle angle and alignment?  How did you make sure to not have issues with that?  (I noticed you had to shim it)
How are your front shocks mounted?  Do you have any?
Did you strengthen your frame?
Steering setup?  (sounded like high steer, where did you mount your box?)

Lots of info, but im sure others would be interested too.

sckid831

-Front lift works great but springs arent flexy as much as i want to
-I put em in the back well because thats how most toyota pickups are so.
-well i cut out the stock c channel that connects the two frame-rails and put a piece of 2x6? square tube to reinforce that and a a piece of 3x3 i think for the spring hanger itself its just a hitch with the mounting ends plasma'd off
-i personally would like to set it up for front springs instead of setting it up for rears because the pinion angle is :pokinit:
-atm i have no shocks but i have Trail gear type shock hoops im welding to the frame with reinforcements
-i did not strengthen my frame because it was not needed if it cracks from rally'ing i will plate it and make it look stock because i do not like the look of frame plating
- 7/8 heim steering kit with 3/4 misalignment spacers to run 3/4 bolts along with custom made high steer arms courtesy of 4runnerChevy on here with a fifth stud hole and i mounted an 87 4runner ifs box as far forward as i could before hitting the firewall i did cut one side off the body mount enough so the high steer bars did not cross . If you go with that high steer setup you will be impressed cause that is the strongest steering that i know of thats on a stock toyota axle If you want anymore info glad to help
