go efi or get a different motor. lol

simple upgrades are a cam, header, new air intake. use a 20r head, trow some NOS in it. ;)

I've got an 83 22R that I've worked over. as stated cam, headers are the simple things to do. and they work.
butt you need to know that a 22R is NOT a power house. never will be. so the ? how fast do you want to spend?
A good day working, that's just sick :reg:

Getting as most power as possible out of a 22r is going to be more expensive and time consuming then just putting in a 22re. Granted neither is the pinnacle of power, the 22re makes more and eliminates your carby (which is a huge improvement in my opinion)
swap for a 22re or a 3rz if you can (more work) and you will be way more happier than modding your 22r. power isnt always the name of the game. The 22re has a lot going for it with relatively small amounts of power. Having played this game myself I'd save up for the 22re.
If you are broke, save up your money and run your 22r as is till you can afford the swap.
Just my two cents

Cam and header combo  makes a huge difference from stock.

If you are running tires bigger than the diffs are geared for, engine upgrades on a 22r wont make much difference.

Seriously though, the 2jz sounds like the coolest Idea. 2 or 3Rz would be nice . If you're bent on staying with the 20R
get some side draft webbers, big cam, big valves , Dual valve springs, ARP head suds, high compression  forged pisons, MLS head gasket, a header, and try to run 2.5 in exhaust all the way out....  And you'll still get dusted by stock civics. The thing is, you can get a 3rz for around a grand, and get the same 150 HP that you would get with all those mods I mentioned above. Four valves is better than two- less friction.
To the moon!
