I have been using the "Gas Cubby" app on my phone for a little while now.  Here are the figures for my last 17 fill ups on my stock 1984 Longbed 4x4 with a 2L Diesel, 5 speed G52 tranny, 4.10 gears (probably), 235/75/15Rs tires, and an aluminum tool box:

Average MPG:  24.04
Maximum MPG:   31.51
Minimum MPG:   20.11

About a month ago, I changed the fuel filter, which had not been done since I got the truck in Jan. 2011, and according to the PO since he had owned it for the prior 2 years.  Well, my average MPG went to 26.01.  The fuel filter seemed to make some difference for this truck.  Does that sound stupid?   I might just need more fill ups to confirm the savings.

I try to drive slow and easy with this truck whenever possible--You could even call me Jimmy Carter or Mr. 55 holding you up in the right hand lane, but then like everyone, sometimes I get impatient!  It should be noted that I have done mostly City driving for these figures.

Oh!  BTW, fueleconomy.gov shows that a Federal Emissions Spec. 1984 4x4 diesel 2L should get 24 City and 26 Hwy; a Federal Emissions Spec. 1984 4x4 22R should get 17 City and 21 Hwy, and a California Emissions Spec. 1984 4x4 22R should get 16 City and 19 Hwy.

I am pretty pleased so far.

I stopped checking my 1993 4Runner with a 22RE, R151f, duals, 37s and other weighty goodies.  Even though the engine seems to run well, I'd be way exagerating if I told you it gets any better than 17 MPG.
