Tire / gear calculator
« on: Jul 03, 2011, 11:29:11 AM »
I put on bigger tires and needed a formula to calculate what new gears I need to compensate, so here is what I found....

A simple tire / gear calculator is to multiply your new tire diameter and your old gear ratio, then divide by your old tire diameter.
example: 30 inch tires and 3.50 gears, and now you put on 35 inch tires: (35 x 3.50) divided by 30 = 4.08 gear ratio to compensate.

If this has been posted before, sorry.

I ended up with 33/12.50/15's I like them but need to re-gear.
I'll be looking for 4.56,s or 4.88's soon.
Example given was not for my rig, they are ford spec's I believe.
Anybody else running a pretty much stock first gen with 33's and a gear change and how did it affect your mileage and performance?
