That's the reason I bought my 87.  Because it had the R151F and the 23 spline t-case.
And for off-roading it has the lower 1st and 2nd gears.

Not sure if it will bolt up.  But some research might tell you.  But the R151F is one of the best for 4x4.

R150 is good too, of corse you would have to use a R151 bell housing and tail housing... but, just say'n...
the 150 has a 3.83 1st gear,
and 151 has a 4.31 1st gear...
most trannys are 3.93 1st gear

R151 is the strongest yota tranny and is still holding up behind my vortec V-8. But it wont bolt up to 7mge unless you hav custom bellhousing. I am planning 7mge swap in my other 4runner. The W-56 will bolt right up if you use bellhousing from non turbo supra.
built not bought 89 4runner
vortec v8, r151, dual cases

You will find an R151F on either a 1986 or 1987 5spd gasoline turbo 4x4 toyota pickup.  Turbo 4Runners came stock only with automatics I believe.  All gear driven minitruck t-cases should bolt up to this version of the R151F, but minitruck's with turbo trannies use a 23 spline gearing in their t-cases rather than the 21 spliners found in  4cyl. minitrucks with geardriven t-cases.  Please correct me if I'm wrong here, but I think this right.

Also, online research done through a desire to put a foreign LJ73 LandCruisers' R151F plus its landcruiser specific t-case behind a US diesel 2L 4x4 pickup tells me that at least another type of R151F for LandCruisers may have been used.  I have found the part no. for the 2LT bellhousing that mates Lseries diesel motors to the R151F.  I just don't know what t-case was used for sure in the LJs, but I am hoping it's the LandCruiser type for greater options.

Yes.

Don't rule out what Turbo Tim mentioned about the R150s and their street-friendlier 1st and 2nd gear ratios.  If you've got a dual ultimate, you'll crawl slow enough.  It seems the R150 is preferred by many over the R151F for street and highway shifting.

The bell housing is off 89' cressida 7mge and it bolts to R151f off 86-87 Toyota turbo 4X4. The W56 bell housing will not bolt to 7mge or 7mgte block.

I've got an R151F and the low 1st gear is a pain to drive on the street.

Will the R150 guts fit in my case if I ever needed hard parts in the future?
