they did put me on plavix to strengthen my heart, you might see the ad's for it on tv.

once i get cleared by the heart doctor i can then have the surgery :ack:

I'm supposed to see my regular doctor the 23rd at 930 am, this clinic is where i get my med's from, i can get all my meds and most blood tests done here for $5, if not for them it would cost about $1700 a month for my meds

the cardiologist i see thursday april 30th at 1 pm, if my heart is strong enough to have the surgery then i see the surgeon may 7th

i'm beat :thud:

Quotei was really nervous and was having some "pressure" under my left moob.
well, she went and got another nurse and they hooked up a heart monitor and started watching it closely, after a few minutes of various nurses and anesthesiologists coming in and out, the surgeons nurse came in, looked at the ekg and looked at me, and asked if i had been given any nitro,  the nurse that had been there from the start told her i had already had 4 nitro's and 3 injections of morphine and my pain was still bad,  i told her it felt like someone LARGE was standing on my lower ribs.
Hmmm sounds like angina. Must have had some EKG changes that looked like an MI (heart attack) to make them start giving nitro and Morphine. Did they say what actually happened?

Quotethis morning i had the stress test,  they didnt put me on a tread mill, they just injected some chemicals into me that made me feel REALLY CRAPPY,  i got thru it then they took some more pictures of the heart, it was a sort of Xray machine meets MRI
This is called a cardiolyte stress test. They inject you with a dye that helps them to see the heart muscle and the blood flow, then they inject you with something called Persantine, which simulates the heat being stressed (like being on a treadmill). They then use the gamma-camera to watch the blood flow, and evaluate how the heart is functioning and determine if there is a blockage. From these images, they can determine if there is wall motion defects (Evidence that the muscle is damaged, and no longer working). This gives good information about whether the heart can handle stressors placed on it.

Quotethey put me on plavix  and have taken me off my celebrex which SUCKS because i feel like ive been hit by a truck. They gave me some Darvocet 100/650 but they cant replace the celebrex
Celebrex does have a black box warning (the strongest warning the FDA gives) that warns of sudden cardiac issues. (the two other medications in the same class: Vioxx and Bextra; were taken off the market due to these risks). Actually, all NSAID'S (Non-steroidal anti-inflammatories: Ibuprofen, naprosyn etc) have the same warning. The other issue is that Celebrex can interact with Plavix and cause significant bleeding. The Plavix is much more important to save your life than the Celebrex, but you probably don't feel any benefit from the Plavix. You can take Asprin with Plavix, which will help prevent clot formation, but you should talk to your cardiologist first. The asprin may help with some of the pain you're having, but probably not significantly.

There are some recommendations that Darvocet be pulled from the market, because it is a weak pain reliever, and has high risk of overdose. Something along the line of vicodin/Tylenol with codiene is a much better pain reliever. There is also Ultram/Ultracet, which is a good pain reliever, however it is still name brand (tramadol is the generic, not sure if you can get it that way though). Unfortunatly there are not a whole bunch of choices in pain relievers without going into the heavy duty ones (like morphine). Darvon (darvocet), Codeine (tylox, T-3 etc) Hydrocodone (Vicodin, lortab, Norco) and then Tramadol (Ultram, Ultracet) are about the only choices. Then you get into the heavy duty stuff, Oxycodone, Morphine, Fentanyl etc. Many providers are reluctant to use these medications because of high risk of addiction, abuse and theft.

Quotethey did put me on plavix to strengthen my heart,
Plavix doesn't actually strengthen the heart, what it does is prevent the formation of blood clots, which when they get into small blood vessels will cause damage to the heart (MI=Heart attack). The hope is that by ensuring there is adequate blood supply, the heart tissue may heal, which would make it "stronger". This may be what he was talking about. It would be interesting to know if he thought you actually had a heart attack, or just angina.  Heart attack is when you have actual damage to the heart muscle. Angina is when the heart is just screaming that it's not getting enough oxygen.

Hope this helps to clarify some of this for you.

Quoteall i remmeber hearing was they said i was having PAC's and PVC's

PAC=Premature atrial complex (contraction); PVC=Premature ventricular complex (contraction). This occurs when there is an electrical problem with the heart, that gets it to beat out of sync. Like putting the #1 plug wire on the #4 cylinder. This can happen for several reasons, and I won't go into all of them, cause I'd bore you to death. (don't want that..kinda like having you around!) It will sometimes be a "normal" abnormal rhythm for you, or it could mean that the heart is not getting enough oxygen and the tissue is irritable so it contracts incorrectly. What would be important to know is if your still having them. If so, could mean again this is normal for you, or it could also mean there was damage to the heart muscle.

The being tired all the time suggests that there is still something going on with the heart, and it's not pumping as efficently as it should be. Fatigue is also a common side effect of Plavix, so it could be the medication as well. Make sure you talk to the cardiologist about it.
