Are 31" tires bad on 4.10 gears

Hi i was wondering if 31" are bad for a 4.10 rear end on a 1986 4runner? By the way hi EVERYONE!! i am new to the rock crawling.

nope they should be fine with 31s

31" tires will rob a bit of your power but no, they aren't bad at all, tons of people run 31's with the stock 4:10's
I ran 33" tires with 4:10's for a year, 4th gear on the highway, but they were still fine, try the 31's.  You can always re-gear down the road if you need to.

 :)im running 4.37's with 33"tires ,but about to swap in r151f tranny i scored out of donor truck replacing L43 4speed hope this helps

You will have no problem running 31's with 4.10's, speedo will be just a little off.

has anyone ever swapped r151f into 80 hilux with 20r

I've ran that in my 80 but also swapped in a 22r/20r hybrid while I was at it. Makes a big difference with the 4.37 's in the diffs. You will need to relocate the crossmember FYI.

You shouldn't have any problems with 31s except for maybe some hitting on the fenders if you don't have a lift. My truck had 31x10.5 and would grind a little when articulated, but a lift took care of that.

yea 31's will be awsome i have run 33's and 35's on 4:10's just fine you have nothin to worry bout

I stuffed 33s under my truck when it was stock and I didn't have any problems. Just a lil rubbage

31s on an 86 truck and 4.10s for decades on SR5 aluminum 15x7 rims.


The 86 4runner has the same fender lines, so you shouldn't hit anything unless you stick the rims out too far.
