Ok, so I traded my old dd/wheeler to someone on this board for this bone stock 97 tacoma. I was going to sell it but I got a job that requires 45 min drives once or twice a week, so my wheeler on dana 60's and 40's is going to cut it for dd duty's. It has 130,000 miles on the whole truck, but the 3.4 was raplaced and only has about 75,000 on it. I plan do slowly build this into an expedition type truck that is fairly capable but still drives great on the road.
In the future,
Arb or e-locker in the rear
sas with tg housing or tc long travel(not going bigger than 33's)
sliders, and bumpers
winch
box the rear of the frame with the tg kit
But for now I got a 3 inch lift for it and i'm need new rims with less bs to clear the upper control arm, going to get a set of 33x10.50 bfg km2's.
rear add-a-leaf is already done, got one spacer installed(still need to go down to my buddys autoshop and do the other)

And the truck is dumping power steering fluid from somewhere, I'm hoping its just this hose and I can swap a new one in and use a screw style hose clamp.

dumped this in about 2 weeks it's been sitting

Here it sits now, it sucks working in a 2 car garage with 2 trucks.

I just added a poll to the thread, even though it won't be done for a while I wanted to give some time to collect votes.
So don't forget to vote :beerchug:

look up all pros rock jock 60
8,000 on a sas :dunno: and if I wanted a 60 under it I would just wait tell my 91 is a raisin and then swap it all over to the taco. But I need this to do 75 up and down the freeway still, and handle well in the snow on the road.

Thats kinda what i'm thinking, but just tossing around the idea of a sas cause with my old truck I could run it on the freeway and go adventure off and tackle some rocks if I came acrost them. But i'm thinking with long travel and some f 150 rears i'll be pretty flexy still. I was making payments on the fj and I was  getting close to not being able to make them anymore, so my dad decided he wanted it and took on the payments and gave me close to what I already had paid on it. I need to get this going though so I can stop running up the miles on the family tow rig.

87hillbillyoter

yea, you can definitely still do rocks with long travel, seeing that i do it with non travel haha. and that sucks man that fj was sick. but i know what you mean.

Ya, it's a great vehicle. The coilovers I put on the front made it take the whoops and jumps out at moonrocks great, and then you can engage the rear e-locker from the factory and It would make its way up some rock lines aswell.
Speaking of your truck and rocks, why don't you put those 35's on it, get some sliders, bob the bed, and come run the con with me this summer :gap:

87hillbillyoter

im actually planning on mounting those on the other set of rims i got, but i wouldnt put em on until the snow is gone. because in deep snow in 4wd, i can barely get goin with my 33s haha. but i definitely will be running the con over the summer, whether on a sfa or not :gap: . it needs to snow more so i can make some more money haha

I forgot you're not geared. If you run the con you're clutch is gonna be hating life haha. You have any rims you wanna sell me?

I think sas is gonna be the cheaper way to go. Long travel kit is 3,400 without coilovers, fiberglass fenders, and t-100 diff and cv's for 4wd. The sas worrys me though cause i'll probably be tempted to start rock crawling it more and that kills the point of having my rock rig and this as m dd :dunno:

haha i know, ive burnt it out on more than one occasion, but it always gets better haha. i got an extra set, but im gonna throw those 35s on em, so that way ill have my 33s on seperate rims just in case i need em

Ok, so I got the lift finished. But I can't decide what tires to go with :dunno: there is only about a half inch of clearence before the tires hit the upper control arm, so I was thinking about just getting a 4" bs rim( I think stock rims are 4.5 bs??). So should I just go with the 31x10.50 bfg km2's or go with 32x11.50 mtr's? it has worn out 31's on it right now. I'm not sure if I can fit the 11.50 wide tire even with a 1/2 inch more bs.

Thats what I want but i'm not sure if they are going to fit. Guess I could always get wheel spacers for the front if they rub.

91 ex-cab

Couple pictures of it with the lift, the diff drop kit I got from toytec is comlete crap. It made the diff tilt forward more than drop it down. I'm just gonna go with a set of 31 mt's for know.

Oh and I couldn't start the truck up to back it out cause I didn't have enough ps fluid to top it back off and I didn't want to fry the pump, so I started to push it back and then I hopped in and the steering wheel was stuck slightly turned in the lock position. I tried grabbing the ebrake but it was to late I swipped a 40" irok on the way out :smack:

Damn the first dent is always the most painfull. Now you can beat it in the rocks with no remorse lol!   :gap:
22RE .30 over, mild cam, K&N, LCE header, 2.25'' pipe, high flow cat, Magnaflow.
Marlin 1200LB clutch

no substitute for 4wheel drive.

haha, It would probably pop back out pretty easy. I don't really care though. Next thing on the list is a set of sliders.

My friend had a third gen with the TC kit. It was bad ass. If you are going to be doing a lot of DDing with it, I'd go long travel. I DDed my Runner for years but it just got old after a while. Would rather have the long travel IFS.

Got a new set of tires and rims for it, mounted them up and my calipers rub the front rims :smack: So I ordered some 1.25" wheel spacers for the front. They look kinda small in the picture but it looks different in person, once the wheel spacers get here i'm gonna take it wheeling.

redrocket93

Looks familiar, right down to tires and shell. Nice!

I have just as much fun snow wheeling my DD Tacoma as I do my 4runner on 37's. With a rear locker and 32's it does pretty damn well in moderate snow.

Thanks Dan. Thats pretty funny it looks just like your taco, looks like you got bilstiens up front though. I think I am going to get the camburg uca's and the adjustable 2.5 coilovers, I hate the spacer lift. Maybe some sprung under 63 chevys :dunno:

Yes the spacer kits do suck. I took my spacer lift off after a week(rode like crap) and got these adjustable Bilstiens for the front. http://www.wheelersoffroad.com/9504tacoadjbils.htm

They are cheap and the ride is top notch. Night and day difference over stock.

Oh no way, for $175 plus shipping i'm gonna get those as soon as I can before the spacer lift destroys my shock towers. What are you running for a rear lift?

Yeah, they work really well for the price. I'm running an add a leaf in the rear. Works okay but would rather have lifted springs. I can't justify spending the money on them just yet.
