Rats or Mice in the Runner
« on: Jan 06, 2011, 04:59:06 PM »
Ok, I got Mice or Rats in the runner.  My wife bought poison, it's blue colored, now I have blue rat crap everywhere.  Poison obviously does not work, and they lick the peanut butter off the traps.  I tried the traps, but they just stack them up, after they lick the butter.  Sometimes I think they are just mocking me, by stacking the traps.

What works ?  Is there a natural way ?  I am not really concerned about local cats, or other vermin.  Its a runner, so I doubt there is any way to seal them out.  Any idea's ?  before they mess up valuable wiring.

There are glue pads, the no see them traps, also, try to remove all their food sources. Do you keep cat or dog food around?
Dr.Maxwe001 – well i have a 15 gal compressor now and if I gett he 60  and then use the 15 as a reserve that wil give me 75 gal  thats close to 80 isnt it ?

I'll try the glue.  No food in the runner, but I do find Loquat (sp?) seeds in the truck.  Its parked near that tree, no way to avoid that.

Thanks for the input, keep it coming.

It's not necessarily the food that attracts them to a vehicle.  The upholstry makes a good, warm nesting material.     Not much you can do about it other than try to plug any holes where they may be getting in.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

I think I'll try to drive them out of it tomarrow.  I cannot completely seal the vehicle, those vermin can find any hole.  I am more amazed by the blue poop, they just gobble up the poison.   :smack:

Alcacelcer , the works , drain o.   Put any of these on some bread or in a cooked potatoe and they will slowly die or possibly " blow up ".  Good luck!

Thanks.  I am gonna take it to work tomorrow, and if that doesn't drive them out.....  Its stickies, arsenic, alka seltzer, drain -o-, traps, UV spots, nightscope, and a Sheridan.   :crossed:

I hope I catch the f#r's alive,

That is good info, maybe blue poop is a good sign.

I had a rat in my 1st gen. It came through the t-case shift boot. I pulled the seats out a few times and checked under the dash but could never find them.  Good luck.

:haha:  I feel your pain!  Every time I pop the hood on my 4by I find new mouse poo, and one evening I was laying under the truck working on it and kept hearing something toward the back, shined a flashlight back there and saw a mouse jumping from a tire laying under the rear end up to the frame.  Came to find out they were nesting in my frame.  I drenched the inside of the frame, and if that didn't run em out I'm sure they left the first time I fired it up  :ack:

Oh, and I can second the sticky traps.  I brought back some tiny mice by accident after visiting a friend's cabin, and the little fawkers kept getting stuck on my sticky spider traps I had all over the house.  Quick easy cleanup

They will be.

I take care of a rental house, and the previous owners had a garbage can full of bird seed, and the mice got in the garage.  I used a dozen sticky traps, and one of them had the entire family on it.  Mom, dad and the little poopers.  All of them trying to get off the pad.  I sat down with a six pack and watched them for awhile.  It was fun.  :rofl2:

:rofl2:  now that's funny!  Yup, all mine were alive when I found em.  Word of advice: they don't take a great stomp to kill, and if you leave them outside overnight, the neighborhood skunks and stuff will eat them off the sheet

Gonna put stickies in tonight.  Hope I get the whole family.

Good to know, cause there are plenty of skunks in these woods.

I have never heard of anyone getting rodents in their vehicle. Apparently, it pretty common. Thanks for the good suggestions of how to git rid of them in case it happens to me.

around the dealership we have used the vanilla tree air fresheners, under the hood to deture mice and rats, if its a pack rat however they just like the taste of em.....

might be worth a try after you eliminate them, as a deturant...

One thing i can say for sure, if you have a pack-rat in your garage, a quick stab with a blow down nozzle (the one with the long pipe to clean the floor) will do amazing things to one,   just make sure you turn the air off before.... well you get the picture...

I saw a 2 year old car that  the unibody was packed with mice :pokinit:, piss and food. It ruined that car, there was no way to get the smell out, even after cutting open the body and taking out everything.

put the runner in the garage and seal all the doors with duck tape.  corbondiox will kill the rat.  get all living things out of house too.
A good day working, that's just sick :reg:
