20r/22r/22re Frankenstein
« on: Dec 15, 2010, 07:45:36 PM »

so I've acquired a 20r('79), a 22r('84 early), and a 22re('87) engine. all ran when pulled. my question is, what do i use to get the best performance in one engine? I've read about using a 20r head on the 22r block, but is that the early block or the 85+ block that has a shorter deck height? or using the the flat top pistons or the stocked domed?

as it sits i have a lc .450 cam, adjustable cam gear, 4barrel offenhouser intake(22r), 2 barrel offen. intake(22r), pacesetter header, and some other little odds and ends. all the engines are complete.

also does anyone know if there is a difference between the 20r's heads or are they all the same?

use the 20R head and intake on the 22R(81-84) block.  nothing from the 87 22RE can be used unless you need the crankshaft

some EARLY 20R's had smaller combustion chambers but those usually did not have mounts for pwr steering

Use the 79 20R you have.

sell that pacesetter on ebay, its worthless unless its a rare long tube (Ive never seen a long tube Pacesetter)

use the 22R carb on the 20R intake.

if you cant afford a good header run a 22R exhaust with the long twin tubes down to the cat then a 2 1/4 inch tube to the rear

actually its a long tube, didn't think it was rare. and I'm guessing sell the intakes for the 22rs and the 22re?

can i use a 32/36 Weber currenting on the 22r? or do i need to find a stock one for the 20r?

Whats wrong with a pacesetter header? I love mine. I've seen nothing but bad come from hooker headers and lce ones are alot of pennys.
