Hey guys....new member here. I was hoping someone here  would be able to help me out with a few question about a transmission combo I am trying to build for my truck. I have a 2000 Dodge Dakota RT with a Vortech supercharged 5.9 with Edelbrock heads and all the supporting mods required to make it work. After 4 years of problem free driving the auto is starting to get a bit tired and will soon need to be pulled. I have committed myself to completing a doing a manual swap and have purchased an AX15 out of a 98 Dakota along with all the pedals and interior bits.

Now the problem.....I know the AX15 could be swapped in without issue but I have been doing some reading and found that the AX15 is closely related to the R150/R154 used in Toyota's from the mid 80's until the mid 90's. The R154 caught my attention because of all the 3.27 first gear vs the 3.83 first AX15 and the closer gear ratios that would be much better suited to street driving. Also I've noticed the r154 has larger bearings and a steel mid plate instead of the AX15 aluminum.

I have done my research and know that the AX15 input shaft  cannot be used on the R154 because of the 29 tooth vs 34 input gear but I would like to know if you could use the AX15 rear extension housing on the R154 so I would have the proper shifter location and use the oem trans mount?.

Also what kind of torque rating would the transmission be rated at with the Marlin Crawler bearing retainer , thrust washer and 1-2 shift fork and a driftmotion 3-4 shift fork?

Is there any other upgrades to improve gear strength such as shot peening or cryo treating the gears ?

Thanks for any help
Mike
