I think that we should chop the top off this weekend, and get the motor and trans out. It will make it easier to push around. I think that once we take that all apart it will help us when we start chopping off the ifs.

I think he is going to try and make his steering because of how much the sky kit is, but I think he is going to buy the outboard shackle's from sky. He pulled his MC and booster so he has that now, and he is working on getting peices together. He needs the front bar, shackles, high steer, brakeline's, frame spacers, and some other misc. items. He has some perches for the rear with shackle's and 63" Chevy's, but he might be going with fj coils which will give him the front bar because the perches.

So i put the doors on last night (got pics but not up yet.) but i came to the realization that 2nd gen doors are A LOT heaver than my 1st gens. I droped the drivers door. and now both the rear corners are bent, and there is a dent in the door but I will get it fixed.

So a quick question... i am doing an internal cage on this a-pillar with a dash bar, b-pillar with a brace bar behind the seats that the harnesses will mount to and a c-pillar built the same as the b-pillar. no0w the question is; Is .095 wall 1.75 DOM strong enough to hold up in a roll over?

.095? thats less than a tenth of an inch thick. Too thin for a cage, needs to be about double that.

« Reply #43 on: Sep 28, 2011, 10:50:23 AM »
Go with 0.120" wall for the main cage tubes and you can use 0.095" for gussets and non-essential tubes.  Don't skimp on materials, the cage could save you or your friends life in a roll over.  Your vehicle weight dictates the need for 1.75"x0.120" tube if you go by SCORE Rules, which is a great guidline.  (3001 - 4000 lbs. 1.750” x .120” CDN/4130/Seamless or ASTM 1018/1026 CDS/DOM)

As for your sketch, the curved tube like that will not work as you don't have enough room to run something like that inside the cabin.  Take a look at some other manufactures cages to get an idea of what works.

Also, you may want to look into getting a pre-built/bent cage.  Once you figure out how much tube you need, bend it and what not, you may be better off getting one already done.  I ended up getting mine from 4xInnovations in DOM and it is a great cage that takes less than a day to install and rather inexpensive when you look at what you are getting.

Re: questionable runner -------- how about a 4.3
« Reply #44 on: Oct 23, 2011, 07:31:50 PM »
So I have come across a vortec 4.3 for basically nothing. I am considering doing this swap instead of th 7m I was looking at before. Is the 700R4 the way to go and the 203/205 t-case. How would you suggest going, go with an after market wiring harness. Should i take it apart and rebuild it? it is supposed to have about 200k on it. I drove the truck it was in and it seemed to run fine. a little dirty but no major leaks i could tell. Now if i do tear it down sould i do some upgrades? any suggestions would be great.

i did get a little done today between school work, kids and a sick GF

A 4.3 would be good for that truck, but I think a 4BT would be a better way to go.

4.3 CPI's have injector issues.  Before you install the motor you should replace the regulator, Nut kit (2 fuel hoses inside plenum), and look over the spider assembly inside the plenum.  If the inside of the plenum looks washed clean, then you have a leak.  Take the upper plenum cover off and have a look around, you will see all the hoses, they rub and get leaks. Other than that, they are awesome power plants.

I have no issues with my 700R4, although mine is slightly built.  You can go with the 203/205 or the toy case with an adapter.

The plan is to go with the 203/205 because I can source those for almost nothing. I will pull that apart tonight and see what I can find. I there a kit or do i need to get these seperatly?

well the question is since it was running well do i fix the plenum and put it in get it all set up and wait for it to go since it is not a dd? i understand the whole fix it now, but if i do that i am going all out and getting it punched .040 over and dish tops so i can eventually run a charger.

So i got something to help me with the Questionable Runner. I picked up this little beauty for 2k. Comes with 2 gear driven t-cases (1 forward 1 top) the adapter to run the gear case behind the 6cyl 5 speed, a book full of reciepts, 5 BRAND new 33 BFG KM2, and 3" of lift, and a brand new 3.0 (already insatlled) OH speaking of that what is wrong with the 3.0? This is the first one i have driven with the manual and I have no complaints. The plan is run teh IFS untill i brake it and then I will do the solid axle full widths and then run the engine till I get the 4.3 built up and ready to go in.

all the reciepts

The adapter
