Does anyone have any experience converting a trucks registration from road use to OHV (green sticker)

I spent an hr and a hlaf waiting in line at DMV today and then they told me that its impossible. I know that it is impossible and made the lady behind the counter recheck but know one seems to know what theyre doing...

After another half hr of BS she gave us some more paperwork and said it needed to be towed to CHp and have a new VIn put on then to com eback into DMv and they could try to figure otu the rest...? :dunno:

Yea In Sacramento, trying to help out a friend with all the stupid BS.

The problem with keeping it street legal is also having insurance and then because it has full hydraulic steering I dont think its technically road legal because of that either

locked 4x4

Im from the Monterey bay area and we just went down to the dmv and told them we wanted to switch it to green sticker.  They had to verify 2 vin numbers on the truck and then we got it.  It was still kind of a pain in the ass, but it is possible.  (The guy they sent out to verify the vin numbers had glasses a 1/4" thick and still couldn't see :pokinit:)

my friend tried a coulpe times and the morons at dmv couldnt figure it out, so the last time he went he got there just before closing a told them he know they can do it an hes not leaving untill they do. they closed up and locked all the doors and finally gave him a green sticker. DMV is stupid

I've been lagging on doing this to my truck, I paid all fees and decided on not trying to smog, knowing it would not pass. I'll check with my step mom she works at the DMV.

madhunt

you can duel register it too to have both a green sticker and plates as well

Care to expound?  Kinda seems redundant to have something street registered and green stickered since you can go everywhere with a street registered rig.

Any info you can find out would be awesome because DMV is making it a total pain in the ass and when you have to wait over an hr for a 2 minute answer it sucks

I tried to green sticker mine and they told me that in order to do it that it had to be currently registered. Which meant gettin a smog and payin fee's. So i did and the hell with a green sticker. Ca dmv is completely a waste of time

i had to green sticker my 82'  and it was kind of a pita because dmv is ignorant but someone already posted it..

Just tell them you want to do a dual registration, doesn't cost any extra and every two years you just gotta get a new sticker like any other offroad vehicle.

Does green stickered mean that a vehicle can't be driven on the road?

Wouldn't that be easier to register than something going on road? I mean no insurance requirements, no emissions, etc.

Keep in mind I'm from out of state...so, I'm not used to y'alls gubmint rules.

So what about insurance and that kind of thing?

Do you non-op the street part and then only use the offroad tag?

ya the dmv sucks... we delt with them for like a year trying to redg my bros sammi.. they told us we had to get a brake inspection and vin inspection.. we welded over the first number on the vin.. so then we needed to get chp to put new vins on.. then we found out we had a friend that worked at the dmv and she hooked it up..so basically u need to know someone at the dmv if u want to get something like this done correctly and easly. i live in santa cruz and our dmv is a joke!!!!

yep, technically you don't need to insure it but I did just incase my rig rolled off the trailer and damaged something for some odd reason.

No emissions, no insurance and I think it was like $12 every two years to get a new tag.
