little more progress today, cleaned up the engine a little bit, and threw a little bit of paint on there. also got the old wiring harness in, and started to put the new one in. i was pretty sick of wiring by then so i gave up for today.

here are some pics

some progress today. i kinda hit a few speedbumps, but got most of em figured out. except for one.

this wiring bit, (the thicker one), doesnt seem to be routed right to me. it has a little rubber seal thing on it, leading me to believe it goes through the fender. but the other one right next to it has the same rubber boot on it. and the wires dont seem to be long enough. did i route this right ??? ???

this one- thats the pass. side by the way

has this on it

and all the engine wires

and some pics of the progress

pic of the truck for good measure

and i was being really stupid trying to line the engine up, and guess what i did

broke the L bracket from the bellhousing to the block  :maddest:

thicker one looks like harness that goes into ecu, Have to cut a hole in the firewall, right below the wiper motor thing.

get a holesaw bit from lowes or homede[pot, like 12 bucks iirc, will cut nice clean hole

you dont have to cut it big enough to use the rubber grommet either, it just helps seal it

IFS and a carb? At least you've made a turn for the better. When I swapped a buddy's 80 over to efi I tried to make it look as factory as possible. Your project is coming right along though.

87hillbillyoter

yea man, thats my goal too. at the moment im trying to get it running, then ill clean it up a little bit.

maybe, but i feel like they both used to work. i never put it in reverse then got out to check before though :hillbill: and the one its out on is a newer taillight.

ok, maybe somebody can help me with this. there are 3 lines coming out of the gas tank. one is obviously the main fuel line. but the other two is where i need help. one is a return line and one is a vent. i just need to know which one is which.

afm issues? normally a start but wont run means the fuel pump is turning off becuase the AFM isnt telling it to stay on, when you turn the key on it fills the system, but empties if the AFM doesnt keep the fuel pump running
Sand, what fun, drop pressure to 12psi, stock tires are still digging, can't afford to get stuck, 8psi, still not working. Find a place to GET OUT, air up, un-lock hubs,  WAIT whats this, hubs are UN-LOCKED already. 2wd, 8psi, stock tires, Oregon sand dunes.

Take a look at this link, should tell you what you need to know.

Edit: Did you even put the intake on yet? I don't see it in the last pictures.

87hillbillyoter

well that would make sense, i had it plugged in but the intake wasnt connected to the engine

There you go. Once the intake is hooked up that should be problem solved.

I've done the same thing before. The best part was trying to give it gas to keep it going :talkingn:

87hillbillyoter

well, came home, slapped the intake on, and it ran. didnt run all that great, but it ran. it had a huge stutter. but anyways, i tightened up the exhaust, and then it wouldnt start again. any ideas ???
