Anyone Work for PG&E?

I know Mudguts works for PG&E as a lineman, anyone else?

I just put in a resume along with probably a billion others. Just wondering if I can get some insight as to what they're looking for in a worker. I was told you should apply for everything just to get in and then they will place you where they fill is best fit. I'm actually pretty excited that I even put in a resume as weird as that sounds. I'm not a job jumper...

I'm currently a communications tech for Comcast and it really is a great job. Work four, ten hour days and get paid a pretty decent wage (about double for the average of this area) and it's consistent work. I can work as much OT as I want right now which is great for obvious reasons.

.. But.. it's starting to get a little monotonous doing the same thing everyday, I feel like i'm kinda in a slump and currently as far progressed within my position as I can possibly go. I've debated moving on to a System tech but they're few and far between for this area because of the economy and no one wants to retire etc etc...

I am very grateful right now to have a good paying full time job but am just exploring my options as well.

I work as a mechanic for PG&E.  I heard they were hiring about 25 linemen but that was a little over a month ago. They were looking for mechanics too but I think their standards are too high now. They don't want to train people meaning if they have to invest a lot of money and time to train someone then the will pass. Not trying to discourage you about applying just keep you hopes up. You could've put me down as a reference had I had known you were applying. I honestly don't know how I passed the pre-employment test  :disturbed:

I've been trying to get a lineman job for a while now. My dad has worked as a lineman for 30+ years. As much ot you can want great work great pay and no lack of work. But there is no hookup in getting in. You apply online and that the only way to start the prosses

steve, have you already taken all the pre-employment exams?  i just applied online, but haven't heard back.  I was in the running for a linemans job from mid, but they canned the jobs

I don't have any elec background so I didn't even apply. I also just start a pipefitter apprenticeship Witch pay just as well just doesn't have as nice of work

When I took it 9 years ago it was add, subtract, multiply and divide, also with decimals and fractions. There is a site test with blocks. Basically they ask you which blocks are touching a particular block.

if it requires you to be signed with on with the 1245, start pay for newbies is $22.09/hr.  and you work your way up fast.

depends on the job then because its a helluva lot more than that for the position where my brother is interviewing

all the outages are minimum 72 hour weeks.  last one i worked, pay was 26.75/hour, averaged 75 hour weeks, and with all the over/double time, the smallest check i ever brought home for a 2 week period was 5k after taxes were taken out.  biggest was right over 7k.
