22re fuel pump?
« on: Aug 11, 2010, 09:41:50 AM »
I am new to  :turtle: and am really excited about my new build!

I got a 85 runner last week, im in the middle of replacing the fuel pump(the old one was bad).  I got a brand new fuel pump from my uncle for a jeep 4.0 for free so i fugured id give it a shot.  I have it installed.  The truck will start and as long as you pump the gas pedal the truck will stay running and sounds strong.  when you let off the truck dies.  there is a strang noise that comes from the pump but i am un sure of what it could be.  I hear no air noises related to vaccum leak.  i feal like the plugs and injectors are in good shape.  I am stummped!  My dad suggested a timming issue?

Should i get rid of the Jeep pump and just get a toyota pump?

I did a search and could not find anything that helped me!  any help or advice would be awsome!

Thanks guys!

It only takes about 38lbs of pressure to run toyota efi. If your pump puts out more than that it doesn't matter it has a fuel return that returns it to the tank.

I would get a stock fuel pump or an inline efi pump and get rid of that jeep pump all together

make sure the return is free flowing back to the tank.

its sounds to me like a mass air sensor. if air is getting to the intake without going through it or its not working it will give that same problem
