Post your bump stop height with ruf springs
« on: Aug 01, 2010, 09:39:08 AM »
I have rears up front and a 2 1/2" drop front hanger.  It looks like I am gonna have to set my bump stops to 3"s since my springs will hit my pitman arm, which is fine.  I set up my shocks for 4"s which isnt a big deal since my shocks are 14" 5150s.  Just want to get an idea what others have their bump stops at.

2" drop front, with frankenstein ruf's and I run 3" bumpstops on the driver side and 4" on passenger (driveline and exhaust collide otherwise).

Good topic. I haven't flex my truck out yet. I was going to try and have my shocks work as bump stops. My rig has simular RUF set up, your saying you would have been fine with only 12" shocks?

The way I set up my shock hangers was for 14" shocks but that was with the intent to have 4"s of up travel leaving me 10" down.  I just lose one inch of down travel.  Tho I am going to be removing my shock hoops which are marlins and putting on Ford F250 shock towers.  They look clean and are long enough to handle a 14: shock.  When i do that I well set my shocks up for the 3"s of up and have 11"s down.

You should actually go ramp your truck until the spring is flat then measure what you need.
Dr.Maxwe001 – well i have a 15 gal compressor now and if I gett he 60  and then use the 15 as a reserve that wil give me 75 gal  thats close to 80 isnt it ?

That's what I did.  :yesnod:   I also gauged the angle that the spring was at when the bumpstop would contact the frame and mounted the bump stop frame bracket at that angle so it would meet the bumpstop flat against the bumpstop bracket making the most contact with the bumpstop.  8)

fordh8r, how are those kind of bump stops working for you? Pros? Cons?

Sorry to jack your thread

looks good ford.  I am gonna ramp it tomorrow just to double check it. but I am pretty sure I am limited to 3 inchs on drivers side due to pitman arm.  I do plan to make custom stops.  I only have a few things left till my rig is 100% trail ready.
