Upper A-Arm resting on bump stop ?
« on: Jul 02, 2005, 11:23:40 AM »
Howd'y All:
First 1990 IFS. 4" Lift
My upper A-Arm's are touching the bump stop's, this can't be good.
I basically have no downtravel,  Right ?
I'm guessing my Torsion bars are cranked to much, so I need to back them off, But how much ?
How much clearance should be between the A-Arm and the Bump Stop.

stock you should have between 14-15" at the rim lip to fender lip so I'm guessing w/ 4" of lift it would be 18-19" I dunno about the bumpstop measurements though, seems like it would be kinda a pain to measure it :dunno: . Try your wheel to fender and post what that is.

You are correct the bars are cranked all the way up, just start loosening the bars until you can put a couple fingers between the a-arm and the bumpstops. You don't have much travel in the first place. Then go to an offroad store and get the flat bumpstops and that should give you even more down travel. You will be loosing some lift by doing this but the improved ride is worth it. If you plan on keeping IFS get the Rancho upper a-arm, it does not give you very much in the way of lift but it does give you even more travel.

Yup, they're cranked all the way up. Do what I said earlier and they will give you more travel, and if you get the flat bump stops  it will give you a little more down travel. Get the Rancho a-arm and you'll get even more. Remember it is a trade-off, uncrank those and you'll lower the truck but you'll get a better ride and more equal travel of your suspension..... or you could just hack the whole thing off and SAS the mother.
