Those are some huge welds!
5.71's are junk. They are hard to install correctly, and get a decent gear pattern out of them. The pinion is tiny and from what I saw with mine you only have a maximum of 1 tooth contacting the ring gear at a time. The gears in my truck were 6 months old when I bought the truck and the rear pinion was completely chewed. Bought a set of new gears for it, spent 2 days getting a good pattern out of them and still wasn't happy with it. I know lots of sammi guys runing the 5.71s with ok luck, but i've not heard or seen anything good when they are under the heavier toyota trucks. As far as welded spiders, i've run welded spiders in the rear of nearly all of the rigs that i've had. I like it because it's very consistant, no "unlocking" all of the sudden on the highway, i've seen no weird tire wear from them, matter of fact my only complaints is the tires barking a little bit when I'm pulling into a really tight parking spot on asphault. Other than that, It's cheap and easy traction that works great.

I've been waiting for this article to be finished for a long time. He is barking up the hopeless tree.
