What's Special About It?
A modern recreation of Toyota's legendary FJ Land Cruiser, this new concept combines the utility of a truck-based sport-ute with the youthful looks of today's outdoor sports equipment. Heritage cues include round headlights, a wide narrow grille and wraparound rear windows. The concept also features side mirror spotlights, a front-mounted tow hitch and a two-piece rear hatch that retracts into the roof. The engine is a 3.4-liter V6 that produces 250 horsepower thanks to a TRD supercharger. Built on a modified Tacoma platform, the FJ has a long-travel coil-over setup in back and a standard independent up front for plenty of off-road capability.

The interior sticks to the basics with an industrial look and feel throughout. All four of the bucket seats fold completely flat to render the FJ an impromptu tent or if you decide to venture out there's a removable GPS navigation system mounted in the dash.

Why Should You Care?
A fitting tribute to the past, the FJ may have some implications in the future as well. Although most of the funky design elements won't make their way into a showroom anytime soon, Toyota may be signaling its intention of creating an all-new affordable sport-utility to slot below the new 4Runner. — Ed Hellwig

if they really wanted to bring back affordable effroad rigs they would give us the truck with no f&cking airbags and no ac or power anything but steering and brakes!! no plastic trim either metal of leave it off.  and crumple zone my a$$ gimme a big burly plate steel bumper on both ends!!  and a roll cage with 5 point harnesses now that would change the survivability rate of the driving public!! bunch of F#cking sheep!!! :smack:

I think toy should build a rig like what jeep did with the rubicon...Get rid of one of threre not so off road worthy rigs.(YUPPIE STUFF).Somthing like a 1st gen 4runner with removeable top and heavy axles, low gearing.

.Built on a modified Tacoma platform, the FJ has a long-travel coil-over setup in back and a standard independent up front for plenty of off-road capability

off road capability for whom?Us or the yuppie on gravel roads?

Whats the deal... I think this rig is really cool. Yeah they didn't build an offroad rig but i still like it. I like the funky styling and round headlights. The interior lays out flat and doesnt have any carpeting. very cool. maybe they are offending the purist offroaders but it isn't some high end leather clad $80k suv. I think they are trying to appeal to the xterra owners and those looking to buy a honda element. Something funky that still braves tall blades of grass. Anyway you can read more about it and see more shots at www.toyotaoffroad.com

I'll take one too...

Is the honda element that funky looking thing with the plastic bumpers that come up to the bottom of the windows..Those things are sooo AWEFULL!!They have been out on the dealer lots for a while now but I have yet to see one on the road..I will admit the 04 fj is not all that bad but thats all toy needs to build is another yuppie ride..Its is sort of cool but still not,,know what I mean..

Yeah the honda is aweful but definately unique. My wife likes em cause they are different. Of course so is my truck riding down the interstate with a snorkle and loads o mud on the side...ill take my truck.  Yeah im not much for the yuppy mobiles..but...i did promise my wife i would never buy a minivan...and the vehicle has to be 4wheel drive...maybe i could slap some stickers on the side and put on a exo cage...would it still be yuppy or just even more ugly? Different is good.
