3.4 swap, speedo not working
« on: Feb 05, 2010, 03:37:13 PM »
I am at the final stages of my 3.4 swap and I have an issue of the speedo not working.

Everything else works fine as far as the motor is concerned and the electrical in that truck all works perfectly from what I can tell but no speedo.

On the speedo there is a "S" terminal that goes into a Green/red wire (D1). I have that connected to the green/orange wire coming from the 3.4 ECM. I thought that I had read this is the way to do it but its not working.

From the EWD's it looks like the abs sensors feed the spedo but this cant be right because I am thinking there are plenty of guys who have 3.4 swapped and i doubt anyone changed to newer abs sensors.

there is also a "4P" lug on the speedo that runs to a green/blue wire from the comb meter harness. I can not figure out the function of this wire form the diagrams. I currently have nothing connected to this.

Anyone done a 3.4 swap that can help me get this last thing done and off to the smog ref and see what issues he has for me?

thanks in advance if you can help.

truck is 92 excab, donor is 3.4 from 97 runner w/auto (340F) which is also installed

The 4P wire is the signal from your speed sensor.  It means 4 pulse as in 4 pulses per revolution.  The green with orange wire goes from the spedo to the ECM. But there should be a Grean with light blue, and a pink with light blue wire that go form the speed sensor to the cluster.

When you say "But there should be a Grean with light blue, and a pink with light blue wire that go form the speed sensor to the cluster." Are talking 97 colors or 92 colors or both?

Are these wires coming from the E12, or H, plug of the ECM?

So essentially the wires run from the speed sensor, to the ECM.

Then from the ECM to the speedo via the Green/Lt. Blue and Pink/Lt. Blue wires, and then a single Green/Orange wire back to the ECM?

I believe they go from the speed sensor, to the spedo, to the ECM.
