Dipstick question
« on: Jan 19, 2010, 06:01:07 PM »
Hey guys this is going to be a weird question. My truck was parked at a yard where i work throughout the summer and a few things went missing from other peoples cars. The owner of the yard had diffs, sliders, and other random Toyota parts lying around because he is an enthusiast and he obviously has more parts than storage. To my recollection, nothing was stolen from my truck but it has been leaking a lot of oil. I think that someone may have stolen my oil dipstick and replaced it with one from another truck because i had to put in wayy tooo much oil since i did the oil change yest. It has been leaking oil in spots i have never seen it leak. Can you guys tell me how long your dipstick is and how much oil you regularly put into an 86 22r. If you guys dont have that info where do you think i can find it? Thanks a ton guys i know this is a total noob question.

4.5 qts give or take a little bit depending on whether you change the oil filter.

Sounds like you need to take a look at where it's leaking.

I know what you mean. My engine is beginning to scare me because i hear a small knock when its cold. The engine was rebuilt about 60,000 miles ago but it was sitting for about 2-3 years so the gaskets my be failing me. Can you tell me where these engines usually begin to leak from as a cylinder may begin to fail? Any help is greatly appreciated!

After 22Rs have accumulated some miles and then first started in cold weather, 22Rs will sound diesel like from piston slap...........

how worried should i be? It does not knock too hard and it goes away after it is warm.
