The Coyote Cantina Crew is going to be strong again this year!!  We've got a couple more members to induct this year, hahahahahahaahahaha.

Of course when I finally turn 21 and have a cage and hydro assist I cant make it to the Jambo. Oh well, next year

Should we bring some firewood/chain saws this year or is there a burn-ban out that way?

If you got some extra fire wood cut and have the room to pack it, that would be great some take some.  Scotty said certain parts of the Four Mile area (place we are camping) have open cutting on stuff that's marked and dead.  He's taking a chain saw and plans on cutting some wood.  I was in the area last week camping and no fire bans that I know of.

I'll pack as much as I can.  I'm surrounded by the stuff where I live.  I would hate to have somebody have to cut down trees when I already have an abundance of it.

Thanks QD.  Just make sure whatever you bring isn't beetle kill wood.  Just trying to stop the spread of that nasty little beetle :(

I take it you've rounded up some spare 37's and are back to making it to the Jambo Quick Draw?

No worries there.  My area is still green.  I just have to remember which piles have dried enough... but that shouldn't be too hard.

Yeah, as it turns out its only 1 sidewall tear.  I thought it was 2 because I saw the tear on the rear, and both tires on the same side went flat at the same time.  And my Dad is going to pay, since I was doing a job for him on his house and was asked to drive into a tight area behind the house, down a set of stairs with sharp rebar on the sides of them to load up a bunch of stuff.  So...as much as I hate to have my Dad pay...he is.

I'm getting a set of 4 tires tomorrow...  So I will have 3 for sale...  All the money is going straight back to my Dad who was nice enough to front the money for a whole set of 4.  If anybody blows an MTR sidewall, send them here!

If I can fart out a trailer (painful) I should be able to bring a buncha' firewood; my neighbor has stacks of it out back that's already split. And we'll be towing my pile with his Dodge truck so we should have plenty-o-room.

Thanks! I'm actually doing something with Kyle this weekend but my Dad will most likely be there to watch.

Well, showing off the dual trannys is not happening this Jambo!
I have too many variables in the changes I have made to rush to get it done and drive 3 hours, go wheeling and not have something break.
I need to give it a good "go over" and take it out to test it.
I'll still be there, but in my stock '99 4runner.
Finally got my '85 4runner!
Let the buildup begin!

1 week away!!  Hope everyone is getting their last minute projects finished up this weekend.

On a sidenote, NAXJA (North American XJ Association) ColoradoFest event is taking place in BV at the same time we are holding the CO4RJ.  I looked at their schedule and the only trail that seems to conflict is going to be Saturday's run of Chinamans.  I would suggest either holding off from running Chinamans Gulch on Sat. and maybe running it on Sunday or having a late start (like noon-1pm) to avoid them on the trail.  We can also run Chinamans Gulch Sat. night as a night run if anybody's up for that.

There's tons of trails in the area so I'd suggest Wheeler Lake or Iron Chest on Sat. if you're looking to get a moderate trail run in on Saturday.

Dan (Wakkjobb) has decided it would be best to haul the rig to jambo this year. Anyone have a trailer large enough for 2 rigs or anyone not going that we could borrow your trailer for the jambo? If so, let Dan know please. He's in the garage right now and is working on 4 different cars, so he's pretty busy and had forgotten to make a post asking for help.

Thanks!

wakkjobb

Scratch that, I lined up a trailer yesterday! Luckily people remember me after not hanging out for a few years, now I can tow my POS out and back. Run Carnage, you say?  :screwy:
This week I need to check my front axle for anything since I haven't done so since I installed it. I'm going to bring my spare steering knuckles just in case because I have a sneaking suspicion one or both will break "just because". If I had more time I'd probably do a 5th stud upgrade and swap em out for my current stockers.

Screw it, I've got too much stuff to do already...

Haha....can't believe you guys did Penrose a week before the Jambo...  But I suppose that's more of a "test run" for you, right? :D

Well Lauren and I installed a new pilot and throwout bearing this week.  Even though the truck only squealed with the clutch in, the pilot bearing seemed to be more crunchy than the throwout bearing did.  The pressure plate did have somewhat heavy wear marks on it that would indicate the throwout bearing had seized up at some point.  But I couldn't feel that there was any problem with it.  Anyway, the squealing is gone...hopefully for good.  Now I wonder why I got such a bad batch of bearings?

This dude I'm trying to get tires from is kinda flaky...I still haven't picked them up...I don't know if he has them off his Jeep yet...and it's almost impossible to get a hold of him.  So I'm going to give him another few calls today probably.  I might have to be looking at those 16.5" rim ones again.

Long read - good luck!
http://www.colorado4x4.org/vbb/showthread.php?t=165488&page=2p

My brother has a YJ with small tube fenders.  He got pulled over in Denver and received a ticket for tire coverage.  I believe City of Denver is the only place that can write you a tire coverage ticket.

With that said, there have been reports of people getting pulled over on hwy 285.  I've the Jambo 2 years ago without front fenders.  I drove it from camp to BV Carnage & back without any issues.

volcoms post is a good read. i live in junction- i have the rear skirt thingy cut off my 4runner and about 3 inches cut out of the rear section of the front well. i run 13.5 inch wide iroks on 8in yota IFS width axles. my fenders cover half the width of the tire BUT i have no protection for the "half the height" (aka the moab mudflap rule) of the tire. ive passed by alot of cops and none of them seem to care-- with that said im sure i will get pulled over the next time im out. but i bet if i was driving kinda crazy- cutting people off, speeding, weaving, peeling out, im sure they will add the speeding ticket to the fix-it ticket type stuff the cop see's.
my wifes grandad, who lives in moab, has a lightly lifted YJ that sees no trail time and he gets pulled over almost all the time for the moab mudflap rule, no matter if its crawling season or the off season. he has since sold the jeep cause he was tired of getting tickets. the last time i was in moab for crawling we passed a few cops and they looked at us, but didnt do anything. we were driving on the street- and i have a buddy who has a yota frame and some tube as a cage. thats it.
i think, as said anywhere, as long as your driving smartly and keep it "close" to street legal, you should be ok. but as i state anytime i post this was my experience- yours may vary.

do you plan on taking off the whole fender? i have seen someone driving on the street here in town with his front fenders off. the inner fender is still there. i see it often enough that i think he isnt getting many tickets (if any at all) or he has enoughmoney to pay for the tickets :gap:

A lot of it depends on the cop; I sometimes worry about driving with my doors off, but I talked to a cop about it and he shrugged it off. He has a 70s RamCharger that "has the doors and top off during the summer too" so it could be luck of the draw...

hey guys- i talked to the wife again and i got the same answer. she has to work the weekend of the jambo.  :rivers: ( where is the emoticon of the smiley yelling "F%$#"), that means i will be daddy that weekend. and the kicker is that all possible babysitters are busy that weekend. (yeah i know- how the heck does that happen). she said to ask for the days of next years jambo and she will ask for it off so her and the kids can come too. hopefully that will give me a chance to get a trailer and a better tow rig or at least borrow one. if i can know for sure its the same weekend next year i can have her put in the days off soon so they can be locked in.

and i aslo believe in what wakkjob said- depends on the cop, or even the kinda day the cop is having.

I got my doors off and a 2nd top thats cut in half and I've been running around Fruita, Loma area; but not ballsy enough to head on into Junction.  I just took my outer fenders off and was rebuilding the front axle today/tomorrow and was just thinkin of not puttin them back on.  I'm runnin 12.5's and no mud flaps and never had any problem, but I drive like a white man too.  I was just wonderin where the line is for legel and illegal, sounds like a big grey area.  Just depends on the LEO havin a crapy day or not.  Thanx for the info Volcom!!

That sucks, I was looking forward to wheeling with ya.  The Jambo is usually planned for the end of July, start of Aug every year.  I looked at next years dates - probably going to be July 29th-30th-31st.  We'll see if I plan the event again next year or pass it off to somebody else :D

Yup, that's why it's so hard to tell somebody if they can or can't run fenders, tube fenders, wide tires, etc.....

well thank you- ive been wanting to see that dang runner of yours. theres 2 4runners out there that i hoped mine would look like. and yours is one of them. i know its way to far in advanced so i will try to keep up with the forum to see the dates and whos taking charge/going. :) plus i keep daydreaming of selling my yota axles and start looking for a 60 and a 14bolt. maybe i can show up to next years jambo with more much needed experience and a truck that can do a little more.

ive got a question for all of you guys though. i know a diesel is better- but i have no job so a newer truck/diesel is out of the question for now. i have a 99' tahoe with a 5.7L in it. no modifications. auto. would you guys suggest towing with it. im pretty sure it can handle the towing to the local trails but im looking to also tow to moab and up in the mountains to ride with you guys. how long would the tahoe last? and i mean towing the 4runner and some camping gear.

We got pulled over twice one year heading to EJS and the tires on our runner were only barely sticking out of the fenders. About a month ago when Kyle and I went out to Moab a cop happened to come over in his car while Kyle was taking off driveshafts and talked to us. We had asked him about it and he said that normally the extra help they hire during peak season times (like ones from bigger cities) have a tendency to be more picky and thats probably who got us at the time. He said he didn't really care about it and most of the local cops usually don't either. So guess it really does depend on which cop gets you (as already stated) lol
