you want a snorkel for cleaner air? I dont like snorkels but thats me. I wouldnt cut a hole in my fender to shove a piece of pipe through it for better air....

they make no sense to me unless you do the whole truck "water proof"

cheap insurance to keep the engine from hydro locking when crossing low water bridges, creeks,  any of the other places in Texas you might get into deep water

My ,  if you're worried about water crossing, you should snorkel your axles before you even begin to think about snorkeling your engine.

Your axles already have breathers on top of the pumpkin.  The problem is, if you're going to cross water that is deeper than your axles, the diff breathers might suck in water if they are submersed.

What most people do to combat this is pull the stock little breather out and replace it with a fitting connected to a hose that goes higher on the vehicle, hopefully, above the water line.  It's a pretty cheap and easy thing to do.  In fact Marlin and his crew sell an axle breather kit.  http://www.marlincrawler.com/axle/front-axle-parts/axle-breather-kit

You can actually pick the individual parts to build your own from your local hardware store, although, I don't remember the sizes, but refer to this post http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=32804.0 for some details and pics.

Trust me, if you plan on crossing water where your axle may get submerged, this is the hands down best/cheapest mod to do to ensure you'll be able to do it again

When I go to events in TX,  I ask them from time to time where they can find deep enough water to justify a snorkel. Everyone corrects me and says it's for getting the intake higher than the "dust line" when following others on dirt roads, etc. So there's you another reason other than just water issues.

So why do i need to remove old nipple get new one, and extend the hose into the cab or something

You remove the old nipple and install a new fitting b/c it's easier to attach a hose to a regular fitting than trying to remove the cover on the old nipple and attach a hose.

As far as where you run it, well you can run it into the cab if you like the smell of gear oil, most just run it up somewhere higher and put a filter of some kind on the end of the hose.  I've seen many people install the end of the hose and filter a gap inside the fender in a gap behind the tail lights (atleast for the rear axle breather)

what kind of filter can you stuff into fuel line?

Would any hardware store carry that nipple if i just took it in and tried to match it?
can i drive my truck with the factory nipple out?
