After watching Experience El Dorado Rubicon Episode I was wondering is it true that an inexperienced 4x4 driver with what looks to be a stock 4door Jeep Rubicon drive through the Rubicon with only minor body damage. I would love to drive the Rubicon but always thought my truck wasn't built enough for the challenge.           Here's a link to the website where you can watch the episode if you missed it.  http://www.experienceeldorado.com/cs/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=124&Itemid=124

ya you could definitely do it. but having people with you that have experience is gonna be a huge factor wheeling a stock jeep. it was fine for them because they had lots of people,  tools, parts, and people that have gone through that trail many times. i thought they did a great job on documenting the trail, but you have to keep in mind they also took all the easiest ways possible since they were wheeling stock. that's what makes that trail so fun is there are many options to either keep it chill or go all out.

After watching that, I too really want to go on the trail, but the 2300+ mile trip to get there is bigger obstacle than the rocks on the trail.   :(

Ive done trails that look harder than anything in that video in my 85 runner when it was stock with 32in all terrains. Looks like so much fun!!! gonna have to make the trip out there next year...

There are a lot of go-arounds, it's the optional routes that make the Rubicon the trail of trails.

I was mad that they didn't SHOW any of the obstacles. There are many detours to get around harder stuff but you shouldn't be afraid to do this trail with a nearly stock vehicle. Just bring a buddy :)

In 1977 I went into the Rubicon from the Homewood side in a bone stock, brand spanking new chevy 4x4 1/2 ton wide bed, changed tires to 31" BFG all terrains. Straight from the dealership to the tire shop to the Rubicon. Was along with a toyota land cruiser and a Nissan Patrol.
We went in as far as the river and stayed a few days. Wish I had taken a few photos of my truck. I slid sideways off the top of one big rock and center punched another one into the passengers door. The wife was not too pleased, she was the passenger.
Yes, you can make it just don't be too upset over a little sheet metal damage. But damn is it fun!! Been all the way though a couple of times in a Toyota, again with damage.

Thanks for the info guys. Can't wait to get up there. Looks like a great place to go Wheeling. Just need to finish my fender mods and would like to upgrade to crossover steering before hittin the trail. I am sick of repairing broken steering arms on the trail.  :_order:
