UPDATE: February 9, 2010: It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our dad - Captain Phil Harris. Dad has always been a fighter and continued to be until the end. For us and the crew, he was someone who never backed down. We will remember and celebrate that strength. Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers. - Jake and Josh Harris

Statement from Discovery - Discovery mourns the loss of dear friend and colleague Captain Phil Harris. He was more than someone on our television screen. Phil was a devoted father and loyal friend to all who knew him. We will miss his straightforward honesty, wicked sense of humor and enormous heart. We share our tremendous sadness over this loss with the millions of viewers who followed Phil's every move. We send our thoughts and prayers to Phil's sons Josh and Jake and the Cornelia Marie crew.
Miss ya Dean (4THEWKN) & Kyle (KYOTA)!!

I had my suspicions.  Seems like too many days went by without any updates.  Sucks for the family and friends, I've heard from others who'd met him that he was a very nice and personable guy.  Rip
RIP KYOTA

For those of you who have been asking about how Captain Phil is doing, I wish that I had good news, but I don't. The Captain passed away yesterday. Please keep his family in prayer.

Hey guys,

At the 2nd Annual Rubicon Trail Foundation (RTF) Banquet, Marlin and I spoke to Corey from Experience El Dorado who had some additional information regarding Captain Phil.

Todd Stanley, the producer of The Deadliest Catch and Experience El Dorado, was supposed to attend the RTF Banquet, but he had just gotten back from filming in Alaska and was still too shook-up to want to do much of anything... Corey said this is the first time Todd had ever lost anyone close to him. Todd and Phil would spend a good half year together out on the Pacific, season after season. They became great friends and were very close to one another...

Apparently at the hospital, there was a mob of people trying to get in to see Phil. People were claiming they were his cousin, nephew, aunt, uncle, neighbor, you name it. They had to call the police to keep the people out of the hospital!

And Discovery is working on a documentary for Phil, and they of course wanted his close friend Todd Stanley to do the filming, but they were worried if Todd could hold a camera still or not. So when they told Todd that if he can't hold the camera, that they could find someone else... and I imagine Todd replied with something like 'You let me film this or else!'

So Todd has been extremely affected by the passing of Captain Phil. I don't know if I can go so far to say they were 'best friends', but the way Corey explained it to us, it almost sounded that way.
